FOTN: NYC Smoky Brown Eyes and Natural Nude Lips

Last night, I went to go see a 1920's silent movie called "7th Heaven" at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater here in Los Angeles. I didn't think twice when my friends invited me since I've never seen a silent movie in a theater and I do enjoy old movies. It's the very first movie to be nominated for an Academy award. It's a melodramatic love story about a couple, Chico and Diane who overcame the war with hope, love and faithfulness. It was such an awesome movie. I especially liked the live music playing that went with the movie. I even cried in some parts lol. I couldn't help it. It reminded me so much of my relationship with Kiko. They will be play another silent movie next week and it will be the last screening, so I'll make sure not to miss it.

So, this is the makeup look I wore last night. I did a smoky eyes with natural nude lips. I've said it may times that smoky eyes is my favorite eye makeup to do because it's quick and easy (once you get the right technique). It's is a great alternative to my usual black smoky eyes. It's less intense, yet still dramatic and sultry. I recommend wearing this look for night time.

NYC Individual Eyes palette Created for Blue Eyes $4.99 is what I used on my eyes. I really like this palette because it has all you need to create a beautiful eye makeup: complimentary eye shadows, an eye primer that works and a cream highlighter. Even though it's created for blue eyes, it can also work for any eye color. I have dark brown eyes and it looks great on me. Click HERE for more my review and swatches.

How To: Eyes
  • Use the primer in the palette to prime the eyes. It will neutralize the eye lids and make the eye shadow last longer.
  • Create a black base by smudging a black gel liner all over the lids. You can use any black eye liner. This will make the brown eye shadow more darker.
  • Using a dense eye shader brush (a dense brush will pick up more color), dip it on the brown eye shadow and pat it all over the lids stopping on the crease.
  • Blend the edge with a fluffy blending brush to get rid of the harsh line.
  • Apply the champagne gold shadow on the inner corners of the eyes and 1/3 of lower lash line blending it to the inner 1/3 of the eye lids. This bring in light and create dimension to the eye makeup.
  • Line the eyes with a black gel liner, curl lashes, apply a black mascara.
By the way, I skipped the brow bone color. The primer I used was light enough to highlight that area.

Wet n Wild Color Icon blusher in Pearlescent Pink $2.99 is what I used on my cheeks. It's a peachy pink color with gold flecks. It's a great dupe for Nars blush in Orgasm.

For the lips, I went for a light lips so it would not compete with the dark eye makeup. I did a natural nude lips using Sally Hansen Diamond 12 Hour Lip treatment in Princess $6.29. It's a gorgeous natural nude lip gloss with moisturizing properties.

There's no cameras allowed in the building, but I managed to snap a few photos (sorry, they're blurry) using my  Iphone.

There's an Oscar standing in every corner of the room.

I snapped this photo during the short film prior to the featured movie.

After the movie, we went down to the lobby to check out the at the displays of the memorabilia of the featured movie  These are called Photoplay magazines. They were the very first film fan magazines back in early 1900's used as promotional tool. I love the women in the covers. They're all beautiful.

Here are some photos I found on Google

LOOK: Smoky Midnight Blue Eyes and Pale Pink lips

A few friends and I went to Metal Mania at The House of Blues last night here in L.A. My friend gave us free tickets because his friend was going to play in a band. Now, I don't listen to Metal. I don't really understand that type of music because it's nothing but noise to me lol. But I couldn't turn down a free ticket because I've never been to The House of Blues, and I guess I should be more open to other type of music right? Well, I only lasted 2 hours inside lol. The bands were extremely good for what they do...All that head bangin' up and down, screaming and more screaming and awesome guitar and drum skills. They were really, really good and I meant it. But I couldn't stand it. It was just too loud for me and it even made my head hurt really bad O_o. Oh well, I tried.

Here is the makeup look I wore. I did a Smoky Midnight Blue eyes and Pale Pink lips. It was a night time event, so I went for a dramatic makeup. The main eye shadow I used on my lids is NYX single eye shadow in Frosted Ocean. It's one of my favorite eye shadows from NYX. See another makeup look using this shadow here. It's a rich midnight blue with lots of shimmers. I love it. Just make sure you apply it before your face makeup because you will get tons of fall outs. For my cheeks I dusted Nars blush in Orgasm, a gorgeous peachy pink with gold shimmers that pretty much goes with anything. If you don't have it, then you can use other dupes like Mark Good Glowing blush in After Glo (buy it here) or Wet n Wild Color Icon blusher in Pearlescent Pink (Swatch here). Then to compliment the dark, dramatic eyes, I kept my lips light (you don't want dark lips and dark eye makeup) and went for a pale pink. Wet n Wild Mega Last lip color in Think Pink, a matte pale pink was the perfect choice.

A little cam whoring using my small Canon digital camera. I don't know if you notice, but I lost a bit of weight, yay! My face looks slimmer whoohoo ^_^.

-Shimmery white on the inner corner and 1/3 of the inner lid and lower lash line. It will open up the eyes and add dimension to the eye makeup.
-Shimmery midnight blue eye shadoq all over the lids and lower lash line.
-A little bit of matte black eye shadow on the outer corner to add a bit of definition.
-Matte white shadow on the brow bone as a high light.

FOTN: Smoky and Defined Brown eyes with Nude lips.

This is the makeup I wore at the Magic Star Meet and Greet on Wednesday. I was feeling extra good that day lol. I was loving my outfit and my makeup was perfect! ^_^ I did a smoky, yet defined dark brown eye makeup. Using a fluffy blending brush, I applied a soft wash of dark brown shadow on the crease blending it upwards, then with a pencil brush, I added a matte black shadow on the outer V and a little bit on the crease to add definition. I applied a soft wash of peachy pink on the cheeks and a dab of concealer on the lips for a pale nude look. You can never go wrong with a nude lips with dark eye makeup.

FOTN: Smoky Eyes and Pale Nude Lips...late Valentine's day look.

Smoky eyes is probably my favorite eye makeup look to do. I've done it so many times, and I love how it can dramatically change the way I look in a matter of minutes, making me look sultry and sexy... yah know?!! It's also Kiko's favorite look on me because he says, it makes may eyes look mysterious lol.

So for my late Valentine's date with Kiko, I wore black smoky eyes with nude pale lips. Usually, I prefer a more natural nude lips, but I went for a pale nude since I haven't done it in awhile. Pale nude is okay, but just make sure your lips is not lighter than your skin tone. You don't wanna look like you just ate powdered donuts right? O_o

Oh wow, one is darker than the other *shakes head*.

GET THE LOOK

eyes:
Prime your eye lids with NYX shadow base in skin tone. This will keep the shadows from creasing and fading. Apply Stila Smuge Pot in black starting from the top lash line, blending it upwards using your finger or a concealer brush. This will keep the the shadow more intense. Using an eye shadow brush, pat Milani single eye shadow in Storm (black shadow with silver glitters) on top of the black base. Then with a fluffy blending brush, apply MAC shadow in Cork (muted golden brown)  on the crease or the edge of the black shadow. Blend it wind shield wiper motion until the shadow fade upwards and the harsh line disappears. Blending is key to achieve the perfect smoky eyes, so take your time.

face:
Use a wet sponge to apply Revlon Color Stay foundation all over the face. This will give your face a sheer coverage, enough to even out the skin tone. Apply Almay Line Smoothing concealer in medium under the eyes and blend it with the same wet sponge. This will lightly conceal dark circles, making the eyes look bright and awake. Then, dust Mac Mineralized Skin Finish Natural in Medium Deep all over the face to set the makeup. This will make the face makeup last for a long time.

cheeks:
Lightly dip a blush brush on Nars blush in Orgasm (peachy pink with gold specs) and apply it on the apple of your cheeks. Nars blushes are so pigmented, so make sure you don't put too much.

lips:
Apply EOS lip balm in Summer Fruit and let it soak into your lips. Lip balm will keep your lips moisturized. Using a wet sponge, dab Revlon Color Stay liquid foundation on the lips to create the pale nude color, then top it off with ELF Minty lip gloss in Los Angeles.

Revlon Color Stay liquid foundation and ELF Minty lip gloss in Los Angeles on my lips.

Kiko and I went to The Melting Pot fondue restaurant and had the longest dinner we've ever had. It was almost 3 hours lol. Visit my food blog to red more about it ^_^

Thank you so much for stopping by.

LOOK: Smoky Eyes and Red lips.

I've seen a lot of biased opinions on "Dramatic Eyes with Bold Lips". It's a general rule that one should never do both at the same time. It's clownish, it's too much and just won't work unless if it's for a high fashion look or a creative photo shoot. Well, as a beauty and makeup junkee, I believe people shouldn't limit the possibilities of creating a beautiful makeup look. Just make sure that it suits you and you love it. Heck, who cares what other people say, just be confident and rock it! Here, I did a black smoky eyes and bold red lips at the same time. It's not my go to look whenever I go out but it's something I like to do from time to time. Did I manage to make it work? I think so. ^_^

For the eye makeup, I applied a black gel liner as a base all over the lids (you can use a black eye liner pencil) and topped it off with a black shadow. Then, I used a bronze shadow to blend the edge of the black and create a slight definition on the crease.

Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Winter Night and Milani eye shadow

For my lips, I used Wet n Wild lip liner in Berry Red and applied it all over the lips. It's the perfect matte red shade and no need for a lipstick or gloss.
