Tips For Makeup

1. The best way to know which make up will bring out the best in you and which will not, can only be determined through trial and error method. So, do not hesitate to experiment with cosmetics and colors until you find the right one for yourself.

2. Knowing the product range that suits your skin type is very essential. Do not compromise on cosmetics, you will be applying these directly on your skin and your skin is delicate.

3. You can experiment with different shades of eye shadows and blushers, and plan makeup in a way that would complement your hair color.

4. Getting the right makeup tools is also an important part of makeup. So you must always ensure that you have make-up sponge, powder brush, blusher brush, eye shadow brush, eyebrow tweezers, lip brush and eyelash curlers in your cosmetics bag.

5. For your eye make up, choosing eyeliners that would suit your eye color would be the best idea. You can use kohl or kajal to enhance the shape of you eyes. Application of false eyelashes and eye shadow will enhance the effect.

6. Never wear make up for long stretches of time. Remember your skin needs to breathe. If you have to use make up very frequently, have a rigid cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine in place. This will help to keep your skin firm, and radiant.
7. While applying any kind of foundation or base make up, use a cosmetic sponge, slightly dampened, to blend it well onto the skin. Always give all angles of your face a final check in the mirror to ensure that no unnatural lines are showing.
8. If you are using more than one shade of base make up to highlight the different areas of your face, make sure that the shades are merged well. The two shades should not stand out.

9. Always keep stick, liquid or cream concealers handy. These are great ways of hiding blemishes, scars and dark spots on your face. Apply on the area concerned (under eye regions too) after application of foundation. Finish it off with a dash of powder to give the well blended look.

10. Choosing lip-gloss and lipsticks is another integral part of ensuring you have the correct makeup. Opt for ones which have moisturizers in them to keep your lips nourished. One of the popular lip make up application techniques is to dust your lips with a light powder. Outline your lips with lip liner and use lip brush to fill in with lipstick. Blot over tissue paper to make your lipstick last longer and also to get a matte finish. Choose colors that complement both your hair and skin color. For more hair tips surf the beautytipshub.

Apply eyeshadow professionally

Step1: Blending is a key

You use three different colors: The base, usually a very light taupe, a highlighter for the crease and a main color for the lid, but how to get them to look as if they merge into each other like the colors of a rainbow?

My secret: Start light then go darker. Brush the base color to the entire eye up to the brow bone (base is the lightest color), apply the lid color (the medium color) and THEN apply the highlighter (the darkest color). Also, don't be too heavy-handed or you'll have to start over.

Step 2 : Choose shadows that make the color of your eyes pop

Gone are the days when beauty experts advised against blue shadow. Matching the color of your eye with a shadow actually brings the color out (think blue shadow on blue eyes). At the same time, contrasting colors make eyes pop too (think a deep jeweled blue shadow on deep brown eyes or gorgeous golds with blue eyes).

Step 3 : Never apply deep color to your browbone -- unless you're doing a cover shoot for Vogue

You don't want the drama too much shadow brings. Apply shadow up to the browbone but don't apply shadow ON the bone unless it's a neutral color.

Step 4: Highlighter can make or break your look

When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge. Get to close to the eye and you'll cause your eyes to look teeny and beady.

Step 5: Set shadow with a great base

Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours. I've found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base, or primer. Almost everyone makes them but I swear by Urban Decay's Primer Potion.

I apply Urban Decay Primer Potion at the beginning of the day and sweep my favorite Christian Dior shadow over it and the shadow stays on all day long with nary a smudge, even through hardcore workouts with my personal trainer. You cannot beat that.

Step 6 : Shimmer is hot, but plays up wrinkles

Shimmer makes eyes really pop, but it also highlights heavy lids, lines and wrinkles. If you don't have wrinkled eyelids yet (I do and I don't care!), try this great look for shimmer: create a "nude" lid, but apply a bit of gold shimmer to the browbone. Gorgeous!

Step 7 : Smokey is great, but keep it to the lid

Making up a smokey eye? Keep color to the lid and just under the lower lashline. Don't extend color above the crease.

Step 8 : How to pair shadow with red lips

Remember the beauty rule "Thou Shalt Not Play up the Lips AND the Mouth." If you're going for dramatic red lips (never out of fashion), cover unsightly blue lines on lids with a concealer or shadow primer and then keep eyeshadow light.

Step 9 : Make eyes brighter with white

A dot of white shadow or pencil on the inside of the eye near the tear duct will make eyes look brighter. You won't believe how eye-opening this is. It works so great, I use this trick even when doing my makeup for work.

Step 10 : Go for color

I love going to Sephora and trying out different shades on my lids just for something different. Taupe and lavender look great on all eye colors. Also consider mixing shades if you bought a color that's just too bold for you. Mixing an electric blue with taupe can turn out the most perfect color.

Tips : Applying liquid eyeliner

We would like to guide you to apply liquid eyeliner effectively and without any mistake. See how the professional makeup artists apply their own liquid eyeliner with this step by step guide.

1. Preparing

- A liquid eyeliner

- Make up remover

- Cotton bud

2. Before you start

Prepare the skin with a layer of foundation over the eyelids to help the eyeliner go on smoothly, although this is not important.

3. How to apply

Eyeliner can either be applied as brush or fibre tip, or my personal favourite is a cream to powder eyeshadow in black or dark brown as it is easy to vary the thickness of the line.

Liquid eyeliner should be applied along the roots of the upper lashes working up and out from the inner corners outwards. If you can’t draw in 1 smooth motion, draw a succession of little lines along the upper lashes and join them up.

The line should be thicker at the outer corners of the eyes to make them look bigger.

Next, draw a line along the roots of the lower lashes, stopping halfway along and working from the outer corner inwards.

4. The Flick

To create a “flick” beyond the outer corner of each eye, press a credit card or ruler at an angle against the corner of your eye and draw along it.

5. Mistakes

If you make any mistakes, use a make-up corrector pen or some cleanser on a cotton bud to wipe the make-up away.

Age spots: Aging gracefully

For women growing older causes many concerns. Most women eventually get age spots. These are the brown patches that can show up on the skin after years of sun exposure. They are more commonly called sun spots.

Age spots on the face are the main worry of females. The most important thing to remember is to get them checked and make sure they are not cancerous. If they are not there are treatments to help minimize the appearance of the age spots.

There are creams on the market with Retin A that can be applied daily to help. They lighten the spots and nowdays are somewhat effective. Bleaching can also be done, but may cause the area around the spot to lighted, which can look worse than the spot. Creams are somewhat expensive since they need to be used regularly and combined with a sunscreen to prevent further red skin from appearing.

Doctors can use a laser to reduce the appearance of age spots. This method is quite productive and usually only requires one treatment. It is safe and usually takes less than two hours to complete.

Chemical peels remove the layers of skin that are damaged. They make one look years younger and can last for quite some time. Microdermabrasion is another technique of removing the damaged skin. A doctor must be consulted and tretreatment should be rather effective.

There are various home treatments that others swear by. One involves mixing onion juice of one onion and apple cider vinegar. Apply this directly to the age spots. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes and do this daily for 6 weeks. It is suppossed to gradually remove the brown.

Aloe vera juice, lemon juice, and castor oil are other home treatments. All are directly applied to the sun spots and left on for 30 minutes. Do this twice a day and the age spots fade away.

Of course the best treatment is prevention. Use sunscreen daily and minimize exposure of direct sunlight. Stay out of the sun at the most damaging part of the day. This could take years off of your skin, and possibly add years to your life.

Eye Shadow Primer

As women, we are constantly striving to look our best, and to maintain our youth. Spending millions of dollars every year to obtain the hottest new products, ever searching for that one item that will solve all of our beauty dilemmas. Among the issues faced by women is keeping make-up fresh all throughout the day.

You work, you have a busy life. You wake up and the make-up routine is part of your daily beauty regimen, but by noon it has already started looking worn.

Lipstick can be reapplied, mascara can take another coat, eyeliner can be touched up, but what about the creasing worn look of eye shadow after several hours of wear? Applying more eye shadow over the creased areas just makes lids feel heavy and does little to hide the wear and tear of the shadow. That is why eye shadow primer is a must have in your make-up bag. Eye shadow primer is very similar to foundation, and you wouldn’t apply your blush and powder without first applying foundation, would you?

It gives your eye shadow something to hold onto, without this eye shadow has an all to well known tendency to flake and to crease. The primer also acts as a filler to conceal fine lines, giving your eye shadow a much smoother canvas to work with.

Much like foundation you should pick the one that most closely matches your own skin color, as it is not an eye shadow in itself, it is not intended to be seen just to be the base for beautiful eye shadow. Its unique formula is designed to bond with your eye shadow to give you the longevity to get through the day with your shadow looking fresh hour after hour. There are many different blends to choose from, as with any other make-up product, it is important to select the one best suited for your skin type.

Adding another step to your daily beauty routine may just sound like one more thing to slow you down in the morning, but it won’t be. It is easy to apply, and you don’t need to be a make-up artist to work with this revolutionary product. You simply apply a thin even layer over your lid and allow about a minute for it to dry and then apply your eye shadow as normal. After one use it is easy to see why women are clamoring to own eye shadow primer.

Unlike the long lasting new lipstick lines, you don’t need a special product to remove eye shadow primer, you simply wash your face as normal.

While make-up can be expensive, as women we always want to put our best face forward.

This product, as with all make-up, comes in a variety of brands and price ranges. Since you only need to use a small amount, a little will go a long way.

This may not be the product for you, but if you want to keep your eyes fresh and beautiful morning, noon and night, then eye shadow primer might just become your new best make-up secret.

Take care of dry skin

Take care of dry skin

Dry skin does not only look unappealing, it also feels tight and uncomfortable. Moreover, dry skin is predisposed to premature aging wrinkles, dry patches, redness and rosacea. It has a parched look, and in heavier cases it is characterized by chapping and cracking. We offer some basic tips on how to care for dry skin, but first we must see what causes this condition.

In general, dry skin has low moist levels, which might be a result of several causes

• Oil glands don’t produce enough sebum, hence the hydrolipidic protective layer is thin or missing. This causes the skin to dehydrate, chap and flake.

• Aggressive environmental factors such as wind, air-conditioning, extreme temperatures, as well as chemicals and cosmetics make normal skin dry, and dry skin’s bad condition – even worse.

• The type of one’s skin is often genetically dependent.

• Dry skin may be a result of nutritional deficiencies, especially lack of Vitamin A

and B vitamins

• Medical conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, seborrhea, underactive thyroid, diabetes and others.

• Skin dehydrates because of certain drugs including diuretics, antispasmodics and antihistamines.

How to cleanse dry skin

Dry skin is very sensitive, thus need special treatment. Many women don’t know how to care for their dry skin and often make mistakes that make matters worse. To cleanse your sensitive face, you need to keep in mind the following:

• Deposits in tap water irritate and dry the skin. The worst you can do is to clean your face with hot tap water. You should use cool mineral water instead.

• Don’t use a washcloth – it is too irritating. Use just your fingers to gently apply and rub the skin care product.

• Soap is not a friend of dry skin. Along with grime, it also removes the natural oils that protect the skin. For gentle cleansing use a non-detergent, pH-neutral cosmetic product.

• When you are done with cleansing your face, it is obligatory to apply a moisturizer or a rich nourishing face cream.

• After a bath apply baby oil to nourish the skin of your body. Your skin must be still wet when using the baby oil, so it can “lock” the moist inside the epidermis.

Foods for dry skin

You need to take care of your skin not only on the outside, but also from the inside. Balanced dies is as important as proper cosmetic care. Here we offer some tips on how to eat and what to eat if you have dry skin.

Diet recommendations for dry skin – what not to eat:

• Limit the consumption of fried foods, heat-processed vegetable oils and animal fats. Heating oils are harmful to the skin for they lead to increased production of free radicals. You can increase the intake of raw foods instead.

• Diuretic substances such as alcohol and caffeine should be avoided. They cause the skin cells to lose fluids and dehydrate.

• They are tasty, but bad for your dry skin: soft drinks, candies, chocolate, potato chips, etc. In general: junk foods.

Diet recommendations for dry skin – what to eat:

• Foods rich in beta-carotene: all yellow and orange vegetables, especially carrots. Beta-carotene is an anti-oxidant that is essential for good-looking skin.

• Nature’s way: make sure your diet includes enough vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds, and nuts.

• Foods rich in sulfur such as garlic, onions, eggs, and asparagus. Sulfur helps the skin stay smooth, supple and healthy.

• Cold-pressed flax seed oil: it contains fatty acids that are very beneficial to dry skin.

• Drink lots of water to keep your skin well hydrated – at least 2 liters a day.

Natural Look

Putting on makeup can be a daunting task for women who are not really adept at the art of makeup and are not familiar with the right techniques and with picking the right colors for their skin tone and eye color. Common fears include choosing the wrong colors for the skin or colors that do not match the outfit, putting on too little or too much, or botching the makeup altogether. Instead of putting on makeup, there are women who opt for just the ordinary face powder or talcum powder and a dash of lipstick (which may or may not be the right color for their lips either), and then they are done.

Makeup is supposed to enhance the features of our face rather than to cover it, and nothing is more alluring than what is known as the natural look. For those who do not know much about makeup, or know nothing at all, achieving the natural look is pretty easy. The key to doing it is matching the color of your foundation with the tones of your skin, as well as using shades that go well with the undertones of your skin.

A quick tip: when buying foundation, test the match of the product with your skin tone by applying it against your jaw line and letting it on your face for a few minutes. Go ahead and see how it looks like in daylight, rather than in artificial light to see how well it goes with your skin. The perfect foundation for you blends well with the color of your skin, so much that it is hardly noticeable.

If your skin has beige tones. If your skin has beige tones with a touch of peach or pink, the colors you should go for are shades of peach, pink and apricot for your lips and cheeks. Cover up whatever blemishes you have on your skin with a concealer before applying the foundation, and then dust the foundation off with matching loose powder. Make sure that your foundation has SPF because skin like yours burns easily under the sun. Also, try not to put on too much makeup on your face because too much will look harsh on your skin and make you look older. Finish off with a shimmering peach or pink lip gloss.

If your skin has olive tones. If your skin has olive tones, the best way to go is with foundation with warm colors like golden brown. Skin with olive tones is also generally oilier than most, so try to stay away from foundation with shimmer in it to reduce the shine. For a sun-kissed look, apply a touch of bronzer on the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose and a little on your forehead. For your lips, outline it with a nude-colored lip pencil, and then apply clear gloss.

If your skin has yellow tones. If your skin has yellow tones, stay away from ivory or pink for your foundation and stick to warmer hues with a yellow base. Also, avoid using powder foundations; yellow-toned skin tends to get dry and flaky, and so powder foundations will only emphasize this unnecessarily. Finish with a light cream blush, colored pink, on the apples of your cheeks, and a light pink gloss for your lips.

To get a smoother finish on your foundation, apply moisturizer on your skin first as a base. Remember to put on only the right amount of moisturizer and dab off any excess with tissue. Too little moisturizer will make it hard for the foundation to blend, and too much will make your makeup run off your skin.

Achieving the natural look is easy. You don?t have to be a makeup wiz to do it, and it is perfect for those who want the gorgeous yet understated look.

How to Wash Out Your Makeup Brushes

I have a confession to make. I rarely clean my makeup brushes. It's just one of those things in life that falls by the wayside as other things take priority like flossing every other day or changing the filter on the furnace every few months.

Last week, I finally did it. I washed all my makeup brushes when I found myself on deadline and wanted an excuse to procrastinate. You and I really should be washing our makeup brushes once every month or six weeks. I used my Purpose facial cleanser to clean my brushes. Any mild soap or shampoo will work. After I washed the brushes by swirling them in a cup of cleanser and water, I gently dried the brushes in a towel. You can even blowdry the brushes with a blowdryer, but I left mine out to airdry before putting them away.
