Selena Gomez Inspired Makeup Look using Drugstore Makeup

I know a lot of you are Selena Gomez fans, so I decided to do this makeup look inspired by her "Love You Like a Love Song" music video. She had many makeup looks in the video, but my favorite one is the smoky purple eye makeup with silver on the inner corners and bold pink lips. It's a very dramatic look with the heavy eyes and lips, but it actually works in my opinion. Purple and pink compliments each other and it's such a fun look to wear. If it's too much for you, then I suggest to opt for a lighter pink or nude lips instead.

I used mostly Drugstore makeup, so this look is affordable to re create. I hope you guys like it.

I used the matte purple eye shadow in my NYC City Duet eye shadow duo in Island Sunset $2.99. I love this duo because it's so pigmented and easy to blend.

I used the primer and the silver eye shadow in my NYC Individual Eyes for Smokey Browns $4.49. Buy it HERE. I applied it on the inner 1/3 of the lower lash line and inner corners of the eyes. I also applied it wet to intensify the color.

Products used:

face:
-NYC Skin Matching foundation in medium to deep
-Almay Bright Eyes eye base and concealer in medium
-Sally Hansen Luminous Matte pressed powder in Medium/Deep

eyes:
-The primer on NYC Individual Eyes eye shadow palette.
-NYC City Duet eye shadow in Island Sunset
-NYX single eye shadow in White
-Stila Smudge Pot in black
-Maybelline Volum Falsies mascara

cheeks:
-Milani Mineral blush in Mai Tai

lips:
-EOS lip balm
-Wet n Wild Mega Last lipstick in 905D Smokin' Hot Pink

Step by Step Photo Tutorial: Wet n Wild Smoky Purple Eyes

Hey Lovelies!!! This is just a test tutorial. I did a step by step photo tutorial on how I usually apply my eye makeup. I've gotten a few request on how I do my eye makeup as well as some blending tips. I apply my eye shadow many ways, but this is my favorite one ^_^. I hope you guys like it!

I created a defined and smoky purple eye makeup using my Wet n Wild ColorIcon palette in Lust (wnwbeauty.com) The look is dramatic and you can wear this look to any night time event or occasion. This would be great for prom too^_^.

1. Apply NYX Eye Base in Skin Tone thinly and evenly all over the lids up to the brow bone using a concealer brush (You can use your finger too). This will help get rid of the discoloration on the lids.

2. Set it with MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural (or any powder). This will keep the base in place.

3. Apply Urban Decay Primer Potion all over the lids. (LOVE this!)This will prevent the eye shadows from creasing and will make the colors more vibrant.

Wait a moment...I just showed you the ultimate way to prime your eye lids! Do this step and it will make your eye shadows last all freakin' day!!!

Ok moving on...

4. Apply the above the crease with a fat fluffy blending brush (I'm using Sigma Makeup Blending Brush). This will be the transition color from crease to brow bone and it will act as a background for the crease color that I'm going to apply next, giving it a well blended look...if that makes any sense lol.

It should look something this...like a light wash of color.

5. Using an eye shader brush (I'm using EFL $1 Shadow Brush), pick up the shimmery light pink on the palette, then spritz it with water and pat it all over the lids. Wetting the shadow will intensify the color. I also noticed the shimmers disappeared after I did this. Now it looks matte.

It should look something like this.

6. Apply the dark purple on the outer 1/3 of the lid using a pencil brush (I'm using Posh Medium Pencil Brush)

It should look something like this.

7. Starting form the outer corner, apply the same dark purple shadow using the same pencil brush and drag it to the crease stopping half way. (You can add more little by little until you're satisfied with the intensity). Applying a darker shadow will give more definition to the eyes.

It should look something like this.

8. With a very light hand, blend the colors using a medium fluffy blending brush (I'm using Coastal Scents Crease Brush) by doing circular motion then up to the crease going back and forth. Again, do it with a VERY LIGHT HAND!

It should look something like this. The colors should look blended and has a nice fade of dark purple to light purple on the crease. Can you see how applying the light purple above the crease helped with the blending?

9. Apply the same shimmery light pink shadow on the inner corner of the eye and 1/3 of the inner lower lash line. This will help the eyes look wider/bigger.

...just like this.

10. Apply the matte light purple shadow on the brow bone using a shader brush. This will help lift up the brow.

11. Apply the shimmer/glittery plum shadow on the rest of the lower lash line using a small pencil brush. (I'm suing Sigma Makeup E30 Pencil Brush) This will frame the eye.

12. Line the water line and the upper lash line with Stila Smuge Pot in black using an angled liner brush (use any black eye liner of your choice).

I extended the line a little bit pass the lash line to create a slight cat eye effect.

13. Curl lashes, apply a generous coat of Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies mascara on upper and bottom lashes.

Finished! Whew...that seemed long lol. I hope this step by step photo tutorial was helpful. Please let me know in the comment below if I should do this more often. Also, I want to know if you guys like the photos small or a little bigger. I made them small because I don't want to scare you with my big eyes!

Ok I gotta sleep now, good night my Lovelies!

LOOK: Wet n Wild Smoky Lust

Hey lovelies, remember when I abused the Wet n Wild ColorIcon eye shadow palette in Pride? Well, I gave it a rest for a little while, and I moved on to ColorIcon eye shadow palette in Lust. It consist of matte and shimmery purples, plums and pinks, all pigmented and gorgeous shades!

Just like the ColorIcon palette in Pride, you can do so much with this palette. The first look I did is a sultry and smoky purple and silver grey. It's very dramatic and you can wear this look for any night time event. I would wear this to a party, a night out with the girls and even a date with Kiko. He loves my smoky eyes ^_^.

GET THE LOOK

I used the Wet n Wild ColorIcon eye shadow palette in Lust. I love this palette because it has a mix of shimmery and matte shades to create a well balance makeup look. If you don't have this palette, just use similar colors you already have in your kit.

eyes:
-Apply MAC Painterly paint pot all over the lids with your finger. This will prime the eyes to make the eye shadow last longer.
-Using Wet n Wild ColorIcon palette in Lust, apply the matte light pink shadow on the brow bone.
-Apply the matte purple shadow above the crease with a fluffy blending brush. Using a blending brush will deposit the color lightly.
-Apply matte dark purple/plum shadow on the outer V and drag it above the crease stopping half way with a small crease brush. Apply it on the outer half of the lower lash line too. This will help frame the eyes.
-Apply shimmery silver grey shadow on the lids with a shader brush.
-Apply shimmery light pink shadow on the inner corners blending it towards the silver grey and on the inner lower lash line using a pencil brush. This will give the eyes a brighter look.
-Line the upper and lower lash line with Stila Smudge Pot in black using an angled liner brush.
-Curl lashes and apply kkcenterhk ES false lashes in A24.

ES false lashes in A24 provided by kkcenterhk. 10 pairs for less than $5. They are so pretty, and the criss-cross lashes creates a dramatic effect on the eyes.

face:
-Clean all the shadow fall out on the face with baby wipe.
-Dot Mark Face Xpert liquid foundation all over the face and blend with a sponge for an even finish.
-Apply Physicians Formula Conceal RX in soft yellow under the eyes and blend well with sponge.
-Set it with Wet n Wild Ultimate Mineral foundation in tan with a fluffy face brush.

cheeks:
-Dust Avon Smooth Minerals in hearty peach on the apple of the cheeks with a stippling brush. I've had this blush for a long time now, and I've forgotten how beautiful it is.

lips:
-Line the lips with Wet n Wild lip liner in willow. Love this! It's the perfect nude for my medium skin tone.

Wet n Wild Mega Last lip color in 900B/Pink Suga on my lips. I decided to go for a pale nude lips, so it won't compete with the dark/dramatic eye makeup.

I hope you like it. I will have more makeup looks coming up using Wet n Wild ColorIcon palette in Lust, so watch out for it.

Inexpensive Smokey Purple EYES!

Yeeahhhh, I'm back with another makeup look and I used my NYC City Duo in Island Sunset again! It's the same duo I used for my Party Pink and Purple look but this time I did a reverse application of the colors. I applied the purple color all over the lids and pink on the crease to create a really beautiful Smokey Purple eyes. If you don't know what I'm talking about, click HERE to see the makeup.

I'm really loving this eye shadow duo by NYC. It's my second time trying their eye shadows and I'm really impressed with this duo. I like that its only $2.99 ^_^ and you can get it at your local drugstore! I can spare 3 bucks anytime of the day for a good eye shadow. For sure I will pick up the other duos and hope that its just as great as this one.

  • Blend, blend, belnd! You want a nice transition of colors. Use a blending brush to do so.
