Eye Makeup For The Office

When you're going out for a night on the town, you can play up your eyes and create a fun, dramatic look. The smoky eye is a the classic choice for a more made up, dressy look. But when it comes to getting ready for a boring day of routine at the office or in the classroom, what's the best way to wear eye makeup?

If you work in a professional environment, you need to tone down your look and go for something subtle and natural. For the best office look, use more natural and neutral colors which blend well with your natural skin tone.

I don't know about you, but the lighting in my office is less than ideal. Keep this in mind when getting ready. Try using a base foundation with warm tones that will offset that sickly color florescent lights cast on your skin. Pink tones or anything with too much yellow in it should be avoided. After your foundation is on, try a warm shade of a neutral, beige, or brown eye shadow. For a little more fun, try out a metallic bronze shade, being careful to avoid too much shimmer. Glitter at the office is not hot.

Don't forget a little eye pencil or smudged eyeshadow around the lids to accent the shape of your eyes. A coat or two of mascara will further accentuate your eyes. Use a dark brown or black mascara and wiggle the wand at the base of your lashes for a thicker lash line and a more defined look.

When I'm in a rush to get out the door in the morning, I just lightly line my top lids and then sweep Bare Escentuals Warmth over my lids. I top it all off with a touch of mascara and head out with a natural look that embraces the less-is-more mentality that works best in the office.

Whatever you do, remember: do NOT apply your makeup in the car on the way to work. Every time I see a woman doing that, I want to ram her off the road. Safety first! Do your makeup at home or in the bathroom in your office...not while trying to drive.

Ok, lecture over. Now: Get to work!
