Summer Shopping

Just something rather simple for shopping today... not really happy with how the colours turned out, but then Hypercool ended up looking differently on my lid than I expected. But I ended up being really happy with my cheek combo - extreme glowy-ness!

Where to get BEN NYE makeup for really cheap.

Last week, I was in the look out for the Ben Nye Matte foundation palette to add in my makeup kit. I've done my own research about the product, watched and read reviews and I was convinced that it was a must have for my kit. I googled it and found many online stores including ebay and amazon that sells it. All of them sells the palette from $49.99 and up. The price is not bad but being the cheap skate that I am, I had to find a cheaper price. Luckily, I found the Philadelphia Theatrical Supply's website linked on amazon.com. I was surprised to find that they sell a lot of Ben Nye makeup for a really cheap price.

WHERE: You can click on this link to go to their online store http://shop.ptsonline.biz/main.sc

So I went ahead and ordered the Ben Nye Matte Foundation palette for $39.99 WOW! and I also got the Neutral Set Colorless Face Powder  3oz. for $5.99. Philadelphia Theatrical Supply was the only store I found online that carries Ben Nye makeup for a really affordable price. Other online stores were selling them for a lot higher. ( unless you guys know other stores that sells them for cheap, please let me know ^_^)

I've heard so many great things about this palette and I have high hopes for it. I can't wait to play with it to see how I like it.

I see myself purchasing some more from this website in the future and I think they are a reliable and great online store. On the other hand, I have to say that the shipping is pretty expensive. I paid $12.99. It's the most that I've paid in shipping ever but I'm not really complaining since I got great deals on the stuff that I got and I still would have paid more if I got it somewhere else.

So check out their website and click on this link Ben-Nye-Theatrical-Makeup for affordable Ben Nye makeup ^_^

Make-up Trend: Purple Shadow

For a radio appearance, Sonam Kapoor's eyes looked absolutely flawless. The look was dewy and fresh with emphasis on the eyes. To get the look, start with liquid liner on the top lashline and a touch of highlighting cream on the brow bone and inner corners of the eyes. Blend creamy eggplant shadow along the lids, then smudge plum liner along the bottom lashes. Apply a few coats of black mascara to finish the lush look.

Eyebrow Raised in Speculation...

This post can be summed up by two nice, neat bullet points:
  • I don't trust mall kiosks
  • I sorta like the process of waxing
Random?  Perhaps...but keep reading.

So....over at my closest mall, the central pathways are littered with people selling all sorts of crap interesting things from kiosks.  They sell cellphone cases, tacky stickers, hair straighteners, creepy sketches, ironic t-shirts, crummy art, etc.  Kiosk vendors frighten me a little--they're like the mall equivalent of freakshow barkers, but unlike freakshows, I have no interest in what they're peddling. They can be a little aggressive, and when you're trying to dodge through the slow-moving mall masses who are intoxicated by the ulta-potent stink spray wafting from Abercrombie, the last thing you want is a kiosk vendor trying to clip fake hair into your scalp.

Then one day a few months ago, I noticed it.  Right near the food court.  Some unsuspecting mall shopper was plunked down in a salon chair, leaning back.  Another woman (kiosk barker) hovered over the sprawled out shopper, raking what looked like a long, thick piece of dental floss over the shopper's face.  I couldn't stop staring.  The kiosk lady had one end of the thread IN HER MOUTH while she dragged the rest of the thread over the shopper's eyebrows, chin, and so on.  Then I saw the sign, "Eyebrow Threading."

I had never heard of eyebrow threading, so I looked into it a bit:
  • Threading is a "ancient" hair removal technique that comes from Asia
  • It removes hair from the follicle, so it's relatively long lasting
  • A pure, thin, twisted cotton thread which is rolled over untidy hairlines, mustaches and so on
  • Threading removes an entire row of hair, resulting in a straighter line
I'm all for trying new things, but a few things struck me here:
  1. When I am getting a spa procedure done, especially one that involves having hair removed from my body, I prefer to have said procedure done in private.  This eyebrow threading kiosk was, as I said, in the middle of the mall, right near the food court.  Thousands of people walk by on their way to get their hit from Aunt Annie or that slut Cinnabon.  There's no privacy smack in the center of the mall. There was no partitian, nothing to allow for at least the appearance of discretion.
  2. The threader kept holding the thread in her mouth.  HER MOUTH!  ICK!  I'm probably just being a germ-phobe, but the whole mouth thing just hits me wrong.  It seems so unsanitary.

On a final note: I am going tomorrow for a much needed brow and upper lip waxing (and express pedi!) at my favorite (private and hygienic) spa.  There's something about waxing that is almost pleasurable to me.  I like the feeling of the hot wax on my skin, the way the gauze is rubbed into the wax, and that moment right before the gauze is ripped off my flesh.  Those silent seconds of anticipation are a hoot.  I don't think I'd give that up for someone to rake a thread (dangling from their mouth) over me.  But that's just me.  I'm stuck in my ways, I suppose!

If you've had threading done or if you want to convince me that it's better than waxing, leave me a comment!

    It's super Shimmery!!!

I'm talking about my new lip gloss love, the Milani 3D Glitzy Glamour Gloss in Fashion Diva. It's supposed to give my lips a 3D effect from all the shimmers it has, but I don't see it O_o. But I have been using it almost everyday and I love it! Fashion Diva is gorgeous sheer purple-y magenta. It's sheerness may be an issue for some people, but I like the fact that it is sheer and it gives a hint of color with a lot shimmers on my lips. It's sooo pretty! ^_^

WHAT: New soft and brilliant formula filled with super shiny polymers and the next generation of pearls to create the illusion of 3D depth for fuller sexier looking lips. (source: http://www.milanicosmetics.com)
WHERE: I'm not sure if this shade is available in all drugstores. I got mine at my local CVS
PRICE:  $5.99-$6.99 depends on where you get them
    AMOUNT: 0.12 oz
    SHADE: Fashion Diva, purple-y magenta
    TEXTURE: Smooth and non-sticky.
SCENT: It has a sweet candy scent to it.

The applicator is a thin brush.

Ugh! I'm not loving this gold cap. It looks tacky if you ask me O_o

Swatched heavily on a white paper. It has so much shimmers in it.

Swatch on my lips by itself. It's sheer and gorgeous.

    PROS:
-It's a great everyday lip gloss to wear by itself because it's sheer.
-The thin brush applicator makes it easy to apply the gloss.
    -The texture is non-sticky.
-The shimmers in it are not grainy.
-The shimmers are visible on the lips.
    -It's pretty affordable.

    CONS:
-The packaging is bulky and tacky in my opinion. Very outdated look. I hate the gold cap O_o
-It's not that long lasting but it's okay.
-The label/name is on a sticker instead of on the actual tube or cap. I just thought it was weird but I guess it shouldn't bother me.

FINAL THOUGHTS:  Even though, I hate the packaging and would not whipe this out in public, I still like this product and will re-purchase. I like that its sheer and it gives a hint of color on the lips with lots of shimmers if worn by itself, and it makes any lipstick look even more prettier if worn on top. Also, the shimmers are not grainy at all which s a major plus. I've tried other lip glosses where I would feel the shimmer/glitter on my lips. Yuck!

    Thanks for stopping by!!!
