Les Khakis De Chanel Nail Polish

This summer, I was a little late jumping on the Chanel Nouvelle Vague nail polish bandwagon. By the time I discovered the rockin' robin's egg blue lacquer at a local salon, I could only get a manicure. Buying a bottle there - or anywhere else - was out of the question, as the shade was sold out everywhere. Well, except for eBay, where a single bottle had a price tag of $75.

After missing out on Nouvelle Vague, I swore I would never again be tardy to a Chanel LE VERNIS party. And I don't want you to be singing the shoulda woulda coulda’s either. Which is why I beseech you to buy Les Khakis De Chanel, a collection of three nail polishes developed in celebration of Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out.

Three limited-editions hues (Khaki Rose, a dusky pink-beige; Khaki Vert, a mossy foam green; and Khaki Brun, a pale stony taupe) are must-haves for any beauty lover's polish collection…especially if you’re like me and appreciate an edgy, neutral nail. The shades can be worn alone, but I've been told they can be particularly edgy when all three are painted in an alternating, camouflage-y pattern.

Considering I've got my hands full with a 3 week old baby, I'm gonna stick to a minimal mani and leave the artistry to you nail philes out there.

Les Khakis De Chanel are now available at Chanel boutiques, Chanel.com and select department stores.

Get The Look: Bryce Dallas Howard at Eclipse Premiere

CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Kate Lee worked with Bryce Dallas Howard at the Los Angeles premiere of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on Thursday, June 24th. Follow Kate's tips below to steal Bryce's modern classic Hollywood look.

"Bryce's skin is milky perfection and her hair a deep auburn, so I wanted to avoid doing the expected, and decided to go for a bold lip. Her skin was prepped with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum, and then I applied a mineral foundation. Her cheeks were CHANEL Powder Blush in Imprévu, which is a great mix of rose and bronze. I lined the eyes with the new CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Clair, and then went over the top with a pale pearlescent peach shadow from the new CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Enigma to reflect the light. I then applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir. On her lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Cambon which I matted down into a stain. I used the clear CHANEL Brow Shaper to set her brows in place, and then off she went to the craziest premiere of the year! The fans had been camping out for a few nights already!"

For her winning red carpet coiff, star stylist David Babaii created a relaxed, Bridget Bardot inspired look. Luminous waves highlighted her luxurious titian-colored hair as it was pulled back on each side, accented with a subtle beehive with shiny, healthy beautiful hair cascading sensually down her back. Babaii released several strands to strategically fall forward and frame Bryce's face for a modern 60's effect.

David Babaii Explains How To Get The Look:

"I prepared Bryce's hair by applying a small amount of argan oil-infused original Moroccanoil Treatment on damp hair before blow-drying to condition, strengthen and protect strands from the heat of the curling iron as well as to eliminate any sign of frizz or static. It absorbs instantly and speeds my blow-drying time so I can concentrate on styling. I love using Moroccanoil Treatment with flat or curling irons when I work because the hair becomes even better conditioned and healthier.

"Once the hair was dry, I applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to the palm of my hands then randomly finger-combed sections of the hair for natural looking hold. After making a center part, I used a curling iron to form loose, flowing waves that were easy to work and to tuck behind the ears. I then gently teased the hair at the crown to create a suggestion of a Bardot bee-hive, pinned the sides, and left a soft cascade of gorgeous hair flowing down her back. Next, I lightly misted Bryce's hair using Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray for an extra boost of natural-looking shine to reflect her beautiful color, especially in the bright lights on the red carpet. It was important to me to give the hair a luminous, ethereal look, and perfect condition and lustre was essential.

"To hold the hair in place without compromising on shine or movement, I finished the style with new Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray, which is blended with Moroccanoil's exclusive argan oil-infused formula. It sprays on in a soft, diffused mist and I love how touchable the hair feels, as well as so moveable with long-lasting hold that lasts all night long."

Pretty in Particulière

Peep my polish. This week's mani comes courtesy of Chanel. Le Vernis in Particulière (from the spring makeup collection) is a putty/mushroomy shade that resembles one of my all-time faves, OPI's You Don't Know Jacques.

While they appear almost identical in the bottle, the subtle differences become more obvious during application. First, Particulière is lighter than its OPI counterpart. It is also more brown than YDKJ, which is more gray. Finally, the Chanel formula is more opaque and creamier - so the coverage is better than OPI.

If taupe-y nail polishes are a once in a while kind of thing for you, there's no reason you need both. But if you're like me and can't get enough of an offbeat yet neutral nail, I would recommend picking this up - even if you already have YDKJ.

Oscars 2010 Beauty: Carey Mulligan

Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan was beautified by makeup artist Georgie Eisdell using the following products:

"This was Carey's first Oscars so I wanted to make sure she looked age appropriate but still embrace the glamour of the night. Carey's dress was edgy and elegant so I wanted to keep her makeup looking fresh and youthful. I wanted to enhance the natural beauty of her skin so I used La Mer foundation lightly powdered with La Mer's translucent powder over that. For her eyes, I used Chanel soft beige and pink shadows from their spice palette. I used MAC's blacktrack eye liner followed by YSL's Faux Cils mascara in black. To finish off her eyes I sharpened up her eyebrows with Laura Mercier's soft blonde brow powder duo. For her cheeks, I wanted to give them a pinched cheek look with Dior's glowing color powder blush in fruit de la passion. For the finishing touch on her skin, I used Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in medium. And finally on her lips I used Dior addict lip polish 004. I used La Mer body creme on the way out the door to give her body the same glow."

Oscars Beauty 2010: Sandra Bullock

"Tonight was Sandra's big night and she was in a happy, ethereal mood. I wanted her to look like the true movie star she is, so we went with modern classy Hollywood - dewy skin, soft eyes, and a bold classic red lip." -Makeup Artist Angela Levin

Angela prepped Sandra's skin with CHANEL Sublimage Fluid. She then used a foundation brush to apply CHANEL Vitalumiere Satin Smoothing Fluid Makeup in Shell all over the face.

Angela created a structured brow with the soft brown powder in the limited edition Les Regards de CHANEL Palette. She lined Sandra's eyes with the darker brown shade in the same palette. Finally, she applied three coats of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir for sexy, glamorous lashes.

To create the real focus of Sandra's look - a gorgeous, bold red lip - Angela applied CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paris. She finished the look by gently dabbing a bit of the same lip color on the apples of Sandra's cheeks - Angela's signature makeup trick.

Frederic Fekkai stylist Adir Abergel wanted to bring back simplicity, with Sandra’s sleek and straight down-do. The strong side part created beautiful lines to compliment her dress. He modernized the texture of the hair by creating a sleek look, with a slight wave at the end.

Conditioned hair is very important for any sleek style. Abergel used FEKKAI Advanced Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner, leaving the conditioner on for 15 minutes. He then rinsed and towel dried the hair. Then he parted the hair in a deep side part. Abergel recommends following the arch of your brow to choose where to part your hair. He then took a large FEKKAI Round Brush and blow-dried the hair completely straight, making sure the roots were flat. Then spray with FEKKAI Sheer Hold Hairspray to 2" sections of hair from roots to the end and use a flat iron to get a bone straight effect. To finish the look, Abergel took a 1 1/4" inch curling iron and lightly curled the ends of the hair for a nice slight wave and tucked the bangs behind the ear. To complete the look he added the FEKKAI Silky Straight Ironless Smooth Finish Serum to create a sleek finish.

Oscars Beauty 2010: Cameron Diaz

"We took the Veronica Lake regal, smooth, classic Hollywood look and gave it a modern but glamorous twist. We kept the warmth and added a little edge." -Makeup Artist Robin Fredriksz

Robin started off by applying CHANEL Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Sand in the crease of the lids, and lining the entire eye with CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Noir. To make Cameron's striking blue eyes pop even more, Robin applied several coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir.

As Cameron has loved a red lip lately, Robin lined her lips with CHANEL Lip Definer in Rouge, and applied the perfect true red lip shade - CHANEL Rouge Coco in Gabrielle. She used the same shade of lip color as a blush, dabbing a bit on the apples of the cheeks.

Her nails were painted with CHANEL Nail Colour in Lotus Rouge, a flattering shade perfect for the red carpet.

Oscars Beauty 2010: Amanda Seyfried

"The look I was going for Amanda was movie star glamour while maintaining a young, fresh and modern feel." -Makeup Artist Monika Blunder

For Amanda’s skin, Monika started off moisturizing her with CHANEL Sublimage Fluid to give her a natural glow. Then she applied CHANEL Teint Innocence Foundation in Gentle Ivory all over her skin.

Monika first lined her upper and lower lash line with CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Noir, extending the line past the outer corner and up. Then she blended with a brush to soften any hard lines. Next, she applied the darkest color in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Smoky Eyes starting at lash line and blending up towards the brow bone using a variation of the lighter colors in the palette. She finished with CHANEL Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Ivory on the inner corner of top and bottom lash line. To complete the eyes, she curled the lashes and applied three coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir.

CHANEL Powder Blush in Rose Petale gave her a fresh rosy glow on her cheeks. Amanda’s look was completed by applying CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Perle.

Harry Josh, John Frieda International Creative Consultant, shared his styling secrets to get Amanda Seyfried's cool, understated look with easy-to-use tips and tricks.

Harry gave Amanda the new Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner in advance as the frizz-fighting formula was essential to smooth and hydrate dry strands and replenish moisture for a nice, smooth blow out.

"These shampoos and conditioners were the perfect way for Amanda to prep her hair," said Harry. "The look was clean and sleek, so it was important to start the fight against frizz early so that Amanda's hair would be silky, shiny and totally manageable."

Harry applied the new Root Awakening Strength Restoring Gel to Amanda's hair at the roots to help achieve the sleek, flattened shape he was going for. Using a tail comb instead of a round brush to avoid lift, Harry blew the hair out, combing it flat to the head as he dried.

Harry then used the Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Shape & Shimmer Hairspray section by section to hold the style. "Amanda has such beautiful naturally blonde hair that I wanted to ensure it looked its best all night and didn’t photograph dark – which some finishing sprays can cause. By using a light hairspray you avoid adding residue or darkening the blonde hair."

Harry finished by creating an extreme, slick side part and pulling Amanda's hair back into a bun. He left a little bit of the bun sticking out in a fan, a last minute decision he made to reflect the pattern on Amanda's earrings.

Oscars Beauty 2010: Rachel McAdams

"We chose our colour palette based on the water color look of Rachel's dress. There was a wash of cool tones in the dress, blue, green, purple, pink so we wanted the eye, cheek and lips to all have this same water color sheerness to it." -Makeup Artist Kayleen McAdams

For Rachel's eyes, Kayleen used a combination of grey and pink shades. On the lid, she used CHANEL Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Fountain.

She kept the grey on the outer corners of the lid and underneath the eye. She used the rose gold shade in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Spices up to the brown bone and along the lid. To finish it off, Kayleen used CHANEL Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Slate in the inner corners of the eye, and followed up with two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir.

She kept the lips very simple with CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rose Comete, a beautiful light pink shade, and a bit of CHANEL Glossimer in Futile to accentuate the lips but keep the focus on the eyes.

Golden Globes Gorgeous 2010: January Jones

Beauty Inspiration: "January's Golden Globes makeup was all about taking a fresh approach to the classic red lip." -Makeup Artist Rachel Goodwin

Beauty Tip: "I used Le Blanc de CHANEL under her base to create luminous 'glowing from the inside' porcelain skin, then treated her lips with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Lip Treatment before applying CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paris - a gorgeous garnet red from a new lipstick line launching in March. I painted the finest black line on her upper lid with CHANEL Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in Noir and shaded under her eyes with CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil
in Graphite
in the outer corners. I finished her look by layering lots of different false eyelashes then added Exceptionnel de CHANEL Noir Obscur Mascara over the top for an intense black lash line."

Golden Globes Gorgeous 2010: Kate Hudson

Beauty Inspiration: "Golden Globes makeup is all about the dress. When I saw Kate in her
gorgeous white dress, I knew we had to go for a clean, sophisticated, pretty look - very Grace Kelly." -Makeup Artist Leslie Lopez

Beauty Tip: "I prepped Kate's skin with CHANEL Sublimage Fluid before applying her base, L'Oreal True Match Foundation in N-3. In the crease of her eyes I used the grey shade from the CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Blue Celestes. I applied the lightest silvery white shade under the brow bone, as well as under the lash line. The inside of her eyes were lined with Almay black eye pencil, and I finished the eyes with CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. Finally, on her lips I used CHANEL Aqualumiere Sheer Colour Lipshine in Malta, a sheer subtle peach shade."

Golden Globes Gorgeous 2010: Cameron Diaz

Beauty Inspiration: "I wanted to blend my old Hollywood inspiration from the dress with the
sunny California girl that is Cameron. So I paired the classic CHANEL red mouth with the golden sunny California eye." -Makeup Artist Robin Fredriksz

Beauty Tip: "I used the gold shadow from the CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Mystic Eyes in
the outer corner of Cameron's lids and crease, and then I used the darker peach and gold mixed together from CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow Quad in Demure on her lids. I lined her eye with CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Dore, and finished with CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. On her lips she wore CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon."

Golden Globes Gorgeous 2010: Jennifer Garner

Beauty Inspiration: "Jen's dress was a perfect nude colour, and the beads were pink and silvery. The overall look was champagne and beige. With her pale skin and dark hair, it was my job to bring color and radiance to the silhouette because everything else was quite monochromatic. I saw it as an excuse to break out the perfect lip shade." -Makeup Artist Kate Lee

Beauty Tip: "I prepped the skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum and then CHANEL Sublimage Fluid Moisturizer, which leaves a velvety texture on the skin. On Jen's eyes I used CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Kaska Beige. I liner her lids with CHANEL Long Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso, smudged it out, and used the dark burgundy shade from the quad along the lash line. I then used my favourite color in the world, the beigey-taupey-lilac shade in the quad, in the socket line. I feathered it along the lash line as well, to blend the chocolate brown liner. I curled the lashes, an applied one coat of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. On her cheeks I used Neutrogena: a combination of Neutrogena Mineral Sheer Cheek Colours in Apricot, Sable, and Rare Rose. Finally, on the lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco in Rouge Orage (coming in March). I chose this shade because it has amazing staying power and incredible hydrating properties. It's an intense rosey color with a bronze shimmer – perfect or Jen's full lips."

Golden Globes Gorgeous 2010: Sandra Bullock

Beauty Inspiration: "When I walked into Sandra's room, I saw that she was in an incredibly relaxed, happy and free spirited mood. I wanted her makeup to reflect her serene state of mind!" -Makeup Artist Angela Levin

Beauty Tip: "I prepped Sandra's skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Cream.

Her eyes were a mixture of CHANEL shadows - Silky Eyeshadow Duo in Orient-Express, and Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Trace. I then lined the eyes with CHANEL Long Lasting Eyeliner in Violine, a deep, soft purple shade.

On her cheeks, I used CHANEL Tweed Blush Duo in Tweed Rose. Finally, on her lips she wore CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Beige Felin (coming in March)."

Golden Globes Gorgeous 2010: Nicole Kidman

Beauty Inspiration: "Nicole is a true Hollywood movie star - and I knew I wanted to go with an old Hollywood look. Somewhere along the way, I decided to kick it up a bit and make her eyes more sexy and sultry." -Makeup Artist Angela Levin

Beauty Tip: "To prepare Nicole's skin, I used CHANEL Sublimage Cream all over her face and neck, and CHANEL Sublimage Eye Cream under the eyes.

Her eyes were a combination of CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadows - in Jungle, Bois Bleu, and Le Bronze. I gave her a slightly dramatic look with two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir.

On Nicole's cheeks I used the perfect coraly pink blush, CHANEL Powder Blush in In Love. On her lips she wore CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque in Santal."

Chanel Introduces Jade Nail Collection

Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, created the Jade Nail Collection with two limited edition nail enamels in sure-to-be-coveted colors "Jade" and "Jade Rose" for the Ready-to-Wear Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 runway show.

These mineral-inspired shades transform the nails into genuine gems and recall the jade jewelry and the pink knit and pistachio tweed of the fashion collection.

"For the nails, Karl wanted a green shade to evoke the jade notes of the collection. I worked with our laboratories to offer him a monochromatic palette of 10 green shades. We chose the color that most resembled the green tweed skirt suit from the collection," explains Peter Philips.

The Chanel Jade Nail Collection debuts on September 10th at the Chanel Soho Boutique in New York City in celebration of Vogue’s Fashion Night Out. Starting the 11th of September, The Jade Nail Collection will be sold for limited time exclusively at www.chanel.com, Chanel Makeup Studios and Chanel boutiques for $25.

Merchant of Venice: Collection Venise De Chanel for Fall 2009

As a city built on water, Venice was a source of great intrigue for Gabrielle Chanel. She saw it as simultaneously dramatic and fragile – qualities she herself possessed. With the imagination of the Chanel Makeup Studio, Venice comes to life in a palette reflective of the city’s shimmering facades and mosaics, and the sparkling aquatic colours of its lagoons.

As seen in the runway looks created by Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, at the 2009/10 Cruise Collection show, held on the beaches of Venice, Italy, rich sienna and deep rose tones, and dusky greys and greens combine for a modern look that can be softened for day or emboldened come evening.

EXCLUSIVE CREATION: Eye Gloss Luminous Cream Quadra Eye Shadow is a quartet of gel-cream shades - pearl, gold, black and red black - delivers a subtle luminous sheen that blends beautifully, from sheer to intense.

LIPS: The Chanel lip collection expands with a selection of rich, luxurious shades. Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour arrives in Intuitive, a pinkish brown; Clandestine, a rich brick shade; Captive, a classic brown; Amusing, a rosewood tone; Comedia, a true rose; and Instinctive, a perfect pink nude. Lips glimmer with Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Courtisane, a natural pink, and Arelequin, a glossy gold. Finally, define the mouth with Le Crayon Levres Precision Lip Definer in Praline d’Or, a golden-hued nude.

EYES: Create a subtle or more dramatic look with Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Murano, a palette with shades of moss, pink and seafoam, and green shimmer. The latest Irreelle DUO Silky Eyeshadow Duo arrives in Acqua Alta, a pairing of white and grey shadows. Brows look perfectly defined with two new shades of Le Crayon Sourcils Precision Brow Definer, Blond Clair and Cendre Noir.

FACE: For the perfect finish, apply Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Fresque, a subtle peach shade, or Les Tissages De Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Sienna, a gorgeous earthy bronze. Skin is luminous with Poudre Douce Soft Pressed Powder in Pêche Caresse, a soft peach.

Peachy Keen

I don't look good in peach, so I was pleasantly surprised that it looks good on me. Case in point: two of Chanel's offerings from Cote d'Azur, the brand's summer 2009 collection.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Orange Fizz drenches nails in a vibrant, orange creamsicle shade that looks gorge against golden tanned skin...which I happen to have (year-round, I might add). Oh, don't hate...appreciate! Two coats of Orange Fizz followed by a layer of Seche Vite creates a pretty pedi that looks 'just-did' for 2 weeks!

And I'm absolutely head over heels for Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in In Love. At first glance, it seems a doppelganger for NARS Orgasm Blush. But upon closer inspection, you'll find that the pigment is less sheer and sparkly. Light brown girls who have been disappointed by NARS' best-selling blush will absolutely swoon over In Love's peachy glow.
