I lead a double life...hell, triple, to be honest. I have a full-time job, manage Spoiled Pretty in my spare time and I'm the mom of  a very active baby boy, Westley. So I can really appreciate a beauty product that does double duty while, literally, shaving time off my beauty routine.

LAVANILA The Healthy Body Wash 2-In-1 Shower & Shave is an all-natural body wash that prevents irritation as you shave. The hydrating formula - enriched with coconut and rosehip oils, as well as aloe - gently cleanses without leaving my skin dry or tight afterwards. It's sulfate free, so don't expect lots and lots of lather...just enough to let you know it's doing its job and where you've already shaved.

The smell is divine. The brand sent me the Vanilla Passion Fruit to test, which is a wonderful summertime fragrance. It's not too strong, yet not so light that - mid shower - you're thinking, "What scent is this supposed to be, again?" It also won't compete with your lotion or perfume, if you choose something other than the corresponding LAVANILA body products.

Urban Decay Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara

A few weeks ago, I signed my son, Westley, up for swimming lessons at the local YMCA - and this morning was his first class. Since I'm a new mom and busier than ever, I decided to multitask and test a new beauty product while we got our swim on.

Urban Decay Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara's light gel formula has been rigorously field-tested in the ocean as well as the sweat-drenched gym. The exclusive Japanese formula refuses to budge. A special microcrystalline wax works with the dense, fuzzy brush to increase seductive length and volume, without ever flaking off and compromising your lashes' natural feathery texture. Mermaids can now sing their siren songs with abandon, and high maintenance types can cry all they want.

I quickly swiped on a coat before heading out the door and prayed that the product delivered on its promises. And while Westley and I were splashing around and dunking our heads under the water, I kept hoping that I wasn't having a Tammy Faye moment. But as my mom used to say about school, "It's not a fashion show." Thanks Mom, for always putting things into perspective.

Anyway, when I returned to the locker room and found a mirror, I was pleasantly surprised. My mascara looked freshly applied with no smears or smudges. And even as I vigorously dried my face with my towel, my mascara didn't budge.



This is me, post-swim. My natural lashes are so stumpy, they don't usually show up in photos.

If you're looking for a volumizing formula, this isn't it. But if you want a mascara that adds good length and delivers natural-looking, you-but-better results, this is a great choice. But if you buy it, you'd be wise to invest in a good makeup remover. Coincidentally, Urban Decay's Melt Down Makeup Remover is also new.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm

 

How obsessed am I with Clinique's new Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color Balm? All eight shades have taken up permanent residency in the makeup bag I keep in my purse. These clever crayons (think of them as perfect hybrid of a lipstick and a gloss) moisturize with mango and shea butters while adding a hint of color and subtle sheen. Plus they never need a sharpener because they swivel up from the bottom - like a traditional balm.

Each of the shades is so ultra-flattering that you could buy any one of them - sight unseen - and it would look absolutely perfect on your pucker.

NARS Poker Face Nail Polish

When the weather gets chillier, I usually prefer a dark, edgy nail. But today, while perusing Sephora on my lunch break, I succumbed to the bright lilac charms of NARS Poker Face Nail Polish.

I painted the pretty purple on my thumb, but - for some unexplainable reason - left Sephora empty handed. As the hours passed, the color grew on me more and more...and now, as I type this, I have a sad face over leaving Poker Face at the store.

Guess I'm gonna have to make a return trip tomorrow to turn my frown upside down.
