For the longest time, I've had a $50 gift card to Barneys New York. 50 bucks doesn't go far at Barneys which is why it took me so long to get my virtual shop on. But recently, I decided to cash it in on a bottle of Kai Perfume Oil - and let me tell you, while the bottle is tiny ($48 gets you 1/8 oz), this was money very well spent.
Kai's perfume oil is a blend of fresh gardenias and white exotic flowers made with essential oils in a convenient and easy to use roll-on vial. Whenever I wear it and catch a whiff of myself, I'm instantly transported to an exotic island paradise. I just want to LIVE in this fragrance. Kai is the perfect warm weather perfume and I've already packed it away in my bag for my trip to Miami later this week.
Since creator Gaye Straza launched the line in 1999, Kai has established a cult following - including celebs Cate Blanchett, Mary J. Blige, Pink, Giuliana Rancic, Naomi Watts and Reese Witherspoon. Kai can add Daneen Baird to that list because I'm hooked and fully intend on adding to my Kai collection (I just added the body wash and body butter to my beauty wish list).

Wake Up And Smell Prada’s Infusion de Rose
I’m a sucker for pretty packaging.
A fantasy scene of wood nymphs at play among giant rose petals entwines the Prada Infusion de Rose Eau de Parfum box, sourced from a Prada Spring/Summer 2008 collection print.
The perfume inside is equally delightful: “imagine fresh rose petals mingling with tea, roses, and honey, crushed in the hand with mint leaves.” It’s an unexpected and modern take on the typical rose fragrance.
While I don’t love it as much as my beloved Prada Infusion d’Iris (my signature scent), it’s a refreshing and feminine fragrance that is perfect for Spring (and a vast improvement from 2009’s Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger - which I felt veered into little old lady territory).
Prada Infusion de Rose ($105, 3.4 oz) is available at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

Do or Don't: Celebrity Endorsed Products
It seems like every time you turn around (or, I should say: every time you turn the page of a fashion magazine!) a new "celebrity" perfume hits the market. Whether it's Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely, Prince's Get Wild, JLo's JLo Glow, or Miss Piggy's Moi, it seems like if you're a celebrity in any form, there's going to be a scent marketed with your name and face on it. Because they're so prevalent...and because there's probably a ton of money involved in the celebrity fragrance world...it doesn't seem like the trend of celebs hawking scents is going anywhere anytime soon.
Recently, Total Beauty ran a piece about the best and worst celebrity perfumes. The fave? Hilary Duff's With Love (a scent I have in my collection--one that I actually kind of like!). The worst? M by Mariah Carey.
Here's my question for you this week: does celebrity endorsement of a fragrance help or hurt? Or does it depend entirely on the celebrity? My take? I normally shy away from celeb scents. I want to smell like classic, good things...like flowers, nature, woods, etc....I don't want to smell like Britney Spears, thank you very much. I avoid celebrity perfumes and never really give them a chance. I'd rather have the scent speak for itself without putting me in the "OMG, I'm a huge Gwen Stefani fan so of course I wear L.A.M.B." camp.
Ultimately, fragrance selection is hugely personal and who am I to judge? If you love, love, love Electric Youth (Debbie Gibson!), then rock on with your bad self. Me? I'll stick with my non-celebrity endorsed scents.

Oh Happy Day!
I'm rather surprised to be typing this, but--despite having to go back to work--I had a pretty darn good day yesterday!
As soon as I left my agonizing, slow day at the office, I headed out to my salon for a much needed dye job. My horrid roots were touched up and I left with shining platinum hair. I also made the decision to switch from a side part to a center part. I haven't had a center part in years! I forgot how much I liked having my part in the middle--it makes my hair really easy to style.
Here's a shot from my powder room of me with my new hair (and my old, trusty iPhone).
Now that I'm fully platinum again, I can wear red lipstick (yay!!). The shade I'm wearing in the photo is something I picked up at Target yesterday. It's Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Cinnamon Stick. It's a bit heavy, but I'm liking it...and it seems to last a good long while.
I ended my day by going out to dinner with my husband, sister, and nephew. After dining on super yummy pizza, we headed over to the mall and found ourselves in Nordstrom. I wandered through their cosmetics section (they ARE having their anniversary sale after all!) and I accidentally fell in love with a perfume: Victor&Rolf's Flowerbomb. Nordstrom was out of the rollerball, but my husband grabbed his iPhone and checked Sephora's online inventory. He said they had it, so off to Sephora we went...and I left with my fabulous find...a rollerball of lovely Flowerbomb (thanks, hubby--you rock!).
All in all, it was a pretty good day. I feel prettier than I did before I got my hair done, and I can't wait to wear my new scent. Here's hoping to more awesome days this summer!

Halle by Halle Berry is a modern 'woody oriental' fragrance capturing Halle’s natural beauty and multi-faceted personality. Incorporating her favorite ingredients like luminous Mimosa and Fig, this fragrance captures the beauty of women with its uniquely contrasted signature: transparent yet textured, fluid but tactile, the sparkling notes composing this scent create a truly sensorial fusion.
Pure Orchid by Halle Berry is a Floral Woody fragrance that leaves a memorable impression. Top notes of crisp Italian Lemon, Papaya Nectar Fizz and Jungle Cactus Flower stimulate the senses, leading to a heart of rare and exotic Masdevallia Orchid. A touch of decadent Blackberry Crème Concentré and subtly sweet Star Anise complete the Orchid accent by creating a unique, sophisticated accord. The scent finishes with an elegant, dry-down base of earthy Giant Sequoia, Patchouli Leaf, and Tonka Bean.
Inspired by the luminous radiance at the heart of every woman, Faith Hill Parfums embodies the modern yet classic femininity of the woman who created it. This sparkling floral bouquet opens with dazzling top notes of aromatic Crisp Pear, refreshing Neroli and lush Pink Peony. Providing dimension and depth, bold, yet delicate middle notes include Southern Magnolia, exotic Jasmine and Gardenia for a romantic elegance. The scent finishes with bottom notes of smooth Cashmere Musk, calming Iris and smoky Vetiver.
A modern, luminous floral scent, Celine Dion Sensational opens with sparkling icy Pear notes married with luscious Plum and crisp, juicy Apple. These tantalizing fruity notes enliven the senses as they evolve into a dynamic medley of vibrant florals. Brilliant Mimosa introduces the floral heart and mingles with intoxicating Jasmine, luminous Freesia and Orris. A drydown of rich Amber and warm Musk creates a captivating balance inspired by the essence of the confident, sophisticated woman.
Jovan Musk for Women is a delicate floral accord of powdery Jasmine, invigorating Neroli and bold Bergamot, accompanied by the earthy scents of exotic Ylang Ylang, striking Sandalwood and Patchouli.
Jovan Satisfaction for Women is an alluring mix of exotic and sweet. This irresistible fragrance provides a confidence boost with sweet top notes of Mango, Pear and Peach, followed by exotic Frangipane, spicy-sweet Ylang Ylang and Lotus Flower. The scent finishes with a sultry mix of Musk, Sandalwood and warm Vanilla.
Vanilla Fields is an elegant, oriental, woody fragrance that blends natural notes of warm Vanilla, powdery Jasmine and Violet with earthy Sandalwood, feminine Ylang Ylang and a brief infusion of sweet Mimosa.

Scents for Spring
Now that it's Spring...and now that the weather is starting to get nicer...it might be time to think about changing your fragrance. I personally use a slightly heavier fragrance in the fall and winter and switch to something lighter and more floral when the warmer months come around.
Here are some fragrances--some new, some old--to check out:
For both men and women
I love unisex scents! Here's a new one from Hermes called Voyage d’Hermes.
Inspired by a vision of a gender-free perfume, Jean-Claude Ellena - exclusive in-house perfumer of Hermès - has created a new fragrance "to share", designed for both men and women. For Voyage d'Hermès, Jean-Claude Ellena has not depicted the portrait of a man or woman, of a city or a natural landscape, of a moment or an era¼ He was not interested in designing a fragrance with the scent of wood, of a flower or of any particular substance. His fragrance is a play of paradoxes, of complements, of new alliances.
And a couple that I once wrote off...
Forever by Mariah Carey is a bit too girly for me, but it wasn't unpleasant. It wasn't as strong as I thought it would be and there's something a little musky mixed in with the floral scent. What I love, love, love about Forever is the bottle. Seriously, it's packaged beautifully. The bottle would look great on a vanity.
With Love by Hilary Duff shocked me. I was expecting something ultra-feminine, something flowery and way too girly for me. But instead it reminded me of one of my all-time favorites, Dune by Christian Dior. I likey! And the bottle is pretty which is a bonus.

Arm Yourself: Urban Decay Revolver Fragrance Oil
Arm yourself with Revolver, Urban Decay's new "sexy and powerful weapon of love." The fragrance oil opens with top notes of lychee and pineapple leaf, then mixes with the middle note of fig. Sheer, yet potent base notes of amber and Egyptian musk round out the scent.
Eau de toilet perfume sprays often dissipate and fade as the day wears on; but this concentrated perfume oil comes in a perfect, go-anywhere roll applicator that can be targeted right at your pulse points (wrist, inner elbow and behind ears) - ao the fragrance seems as captivating at the end of the day as when you first put it on. Revolver tucks easily into the smallest evening bag without fear of unloading.

Flora by Gucci Eau de Parfum
Flora by Gucci Eau de Parfum, which follows the debut of the Flora by Gucci Eau de Toilette, is the latest product developed for the growing Flora fragrance world. The light, feminine touch of Flora resonated immediately with consumers around the world when it launched in April 2009. This new EDP possesses the same youthful and optimistic spirit but in a deeper, more concentrated scent. The result is a sophisticated, warmer version of Flora that makes it ideal as an evening fragrance.
"I was just as involved in the creative development of this new Eau de Parfum as I was in the original Flora fragrance," says Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini. "I used the freshness of Flora as the foundation but wanted to bring a new sensuality to this scent. The Eau de Parfum feels a bit more grown up. I think it will still appeal to our Flora customer but now she has the choice of whether she wants to keep her scent light and easy or a bit more rich and dramatic for evening. It is for a different moment in the same woman's life."
Giannini relied upon the same base of Rose and Osmanthus flower balanced by Sandalwood and Patchouli for the scent's structure; however the notes are now stronger and more sultry in the Eau de Parfum version. Top notes of fresh citrus and peony finish off the bouquet. Not only is the effect more intense and luxurious, but the scent also lasts longer on the skin.
For the EDP, Giannini has created a new white on black Flora pattern for the package interior, which gives a twist to the original and creates a new, richer look. The bottle's cap has been crafted from gold metal and the label in gold paper give it a precious and luxurious feel.
The new Eau de Parfum will be complemented by a special collection of luxury gifts that will launch in exclusive doors. The new products include a white scented candle decorated with the black Flora pattern, a luxury purse spray as well as a solid fragrance that is packaged in a sophisticated gold metal compact.
The collection:
Eau de Parfum (1 oz), $60.00
Eau de Parfum (1.6 oz), $80.00
Eau de Parfum (2.5 oz), $100.00
Flora by Gucci Eau de Parfum is available at Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue stores nationwide.

Warning About Marc Jacobs Daisy In The Air

But after doing some research, I found that Daisy In The Air isn't a new version of Daisy at all. It's actually the original Daisy fragrance in a limited-edition bottle, adorned with light blue flowers. It comes with "a scented daisy chain to hang in your room for a touch of inspiring scent and playful visual appeal."
It's not clear at all, on Sephora.com, that this "new" Daisy isn't a re-imagination of the original scent. So I just wanted to warn Daisy owners not to be fooled into purchasing a bottle of Daisy In The Air - that is, unless your bottle is almost empty and you need to replenish anyway.
