New Term to Add to Your Hair Dictionary: Twilights

Glamour just sent the following beauty tip to my inbox...

Here's a new term to add to your hair dictionary: twilights.

L.A. celeb colorist Stuart Gavert created the multidimensional hair colors you've see on Kristen Stewart and her co-stars in this winter's vampire flick, Twilight, and now he's coined a new color term after the flick.

Unlike highlights or lowlights, twilights are achieved when very subtle lighter and darker tones are painted in to give the hair a sparkly effect without changing its color.

Rachel Weisz and Eva Longoria Parker are just two A-listers who have already copied the Twilight look. There's no major root-dying, which means it's OK to skimp on color if you need to pay off your Visa bill. Ask your colorist to crib the effect!

Line Your Eyes With A Match? Spritz Hairspray On Your Face?

Makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff dips a long, previously lit match in water and uses it to line the eye. "It's chalky and black, so you get these amazing kohl-rimmed eyes, just like the ancient Egyptians had."

Fekkai hairstylist Adir Abergel is known to mix a pinch of Kosher salt with a few drops of water, which he adds to leave -in conditioner. "It'll give you the beachy waves you've always wanted," he says.

And according to Fiona Stiles, celebrity and editorial makeup artist, hairspray not only holds hair in place...it also keeps makeup intact. Holding the can at arm's length, spritz a fine mist on your finished face (close your eyes first). Makeup won't melt, says Stiles. Test a spot first to make sure you're not allergic, and remember to take it off before bed.

Are you tempted to try any of these beauty home remedies?

Diddy Didn’t Happen

Last Friday, I was scheduled to be backstage at Sean John*. I was super excited to be attending the closing show of New York Fashion Week.

I fantasized that Diddy and I would meet, he’d be captivated by my charm, and then whisk me away to the star-studded soiree.

It would play out like that R. Kelly/Jay Z collabo:

After the show it's the after party and
After the party is the hotel lobby and
After the Belve then it's probably Cris…

But that didn’t happen. In fact, the closest I got to the Sean John show was a pizzeria on the corner of 22nd Street & 6th Ave. I was grabbing a bite there when I got a call from MAC telling me that there were no female models in the show, and therefore no need for MAC makeup. I was bummed, but also exhausted from my travels; so I caught an early train back to Philly.

So sorry, beauties. I know you were anxious for me to dish the Diddy dirt. C'est la vie.

If you absolutely need a Puffy fix, Glamour.com has an article entitled "Diddy knows pretty," in which the hip-hop mogul/designer shares his observations on what makes a woman irresistible. Here’s an excerpt:

Why he named his perfume Unforgivable Woman:
“It’s about being unapologetic. It’s about having swagger. Confidence is such a sexy, sexy quality.”

Makeup trend he’s so over:
“Red lipstick just isn’t working for me. It might be good for an awards show, but it’s not hot to kiss. I love natural lip color—that’s always a good look!”

Biggest beauty obsession:
“Sugar Bath Cubes by Fresh. I take a bath every night. I love the way they make my skin feel. I have very soft skin—go ahead, touch it!”

For the rest of the interview, click here.

*Is it just me, or does the Sean John Fall 2008 collection look a little effeminate? I'm not judging...just sayin'.

Profound Giveaway

Ask yourself this question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya?!?!

Good…because it’s that time again. Spoiled Pretty is partnering with Profound Beauty to bring you another opportunity to win fabulous prizes.

Profound Beauty is committed to delivering state-of-art hair care products, utilizing the most innovative technologies available, and creating better results through personalized beauty. Everything they do personalizes the beauty experience and encourages individual style.

Profound Beauty has a unique feature on their website called Find Your Routine; after completing an online questionnaire, a unique combination of products is recommended to address your particular needs - taking your hair from problematic to profound.

Glamour Beauty Editors are wild about this brand, and People Magazine reports that Jennifer Aniston and Eva Mendes' stylists tame the starlets' tresses with products from the Profound Beauty Atmosphere line. Isn't it time you tried some too?

One first place winner will ‘find her routine’ and Profound Beauty will send her a personalized collection of products, customized to her hair type. Two runners-up will win a bottle of Structure Shine, a serum that glistens and smoothes while providing a forceful resistance to humidity.

The contest rules have changed slightly, so listen up. To enter:

*Name the Profound Beauty products that have become my “new secret weapons against the evil winter elements.” Here’s a hint: I wrote a review last month.

*Send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com - and make sure to include the product names, your full name, and email address.

The contest ends at 9 pm EST on Sunday, January 13th. A winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, January 14th, I’ll announce the winners’ names. Please, only one comment per person; duplicate comments will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents. Good luck!
