Make-up Trend: A Springtime Red Lip

 

Rekha and Sonam Kapoor show us that age is not a factor when it comes to a classic red lip. On the latest cover of Filmfare they show us red lips are appropriate in any season. If you're a big fan of red lips and are unsure how to wear them in the spring, look for a shade that's slightly more pink. Also, skip matte formulas which can feel too stiff. A swipe of sheer balm will give even bold colors a lightweight and airy feeling.

At a recent promotional event it was hard to miss Karisma Kapoor's radiant skin, of course it helps that's she's pregnant and blessed with gorgeous skin otherwise. Make-up Trend: Youthful, Girly Eyebrows

Fine lines and gray hair are well-known aging culprits. Add poorly shaped brows to that list! Karisma Kapoor has the definition of young, natural brows, but many women have that surprised look from over-arched brows. They're unflattering and can be incredibly aging.

Keep the width consistent across the entire brow: fill sparse sections in with a pencil and use a brow gel to keep unruly hairs in place.

A: Artsy

“This trend is about using the ‘art’ of make-up to create a mood,” says M.A.C senior make-up artist Vimi Joshi. “Inspired by Monet’s Water Lillies painting and Andy Warhol’s pop art, the face becomes a canvas for artistic effects,” she says. Bold and artistic, this look is all about the brush strokes being used to stipple, blend, wash and dust. Try dipping your brush in to M.A.C Paint Pots, for a colorful finish.

B: Baby-doll eyes

As seen at Alberta Ferretti, the swinging 60s are back with soft baby-doll eyes. This look is easy to achieve: sweep a layer of white eye-shadow from the lid, blending it in to the brow. C: Chocolate decadence

D: De-Vined

Chloe, Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs made sure their models were pouting the hottest lips of the season at their F/W shows. “This trend was all about the sumptuous berry-bitten lip – think berry, cherry and plum stains,” says Vimi. Who’d have thought that Amy Winehouse’s signature look would become one of the hottest trends of the season? Everyone wanted a piece of the winged eyeliner pie, and in 2008 liquid liner got a glamorous overhaul. Eyeliner is a great way of looking polished when it actually took you all of five minutes, but you do need a steady hand to pull it off. If not, try Bobbi Brown's Long-wear Gel Eyeliner, which is easy to apply. Using a two-dab brush technique, the gel-like liner has the same precision as a liquid liner, but is easier to use as you can slowly build up your line. The gel comes in a range of colors, so if black is too heavy for you, chose a plum, cobalt blue or graphite shimmer.

Make-up artists and celebrities use false eyelashes far more often than the average person might suspect, and you too can become an expert at applying whole strips and individual lashes with precision and delicacy. Just like you, your make-up bag should be cleared out and updated, it’s the most important asset for a woman on the go and you should look after it. Beauty essentials you should have in your kit include powder, compact mirror, lipstick, eyeliner, a blush and shadow (a duo compact preferably), mascara and hair bands. And remember, beauty products have a shelf life – mascara should be renewed after four months max, liquid foundation can last between a year and 18 months, powder, lipsticks and liners last longer (up to three years), and any creams and gels in your cabinet should be thrown out after a year.

The David Bowie-esque slash through the eye may be a bit extreme it but for party season, shiny eyes are bang on trend – theatrical, opulent and glamorous! Try Bobbi Brown’s new metallic range for eyes and lips which come in Champagne Quartz, Gold Dust, Rock Star and Gilded Pink. They’ve got plenty of shimmer-factor and don’t crease in all the wrong places. Also, Chanel Gold Fever Highlighter, is a fab way to add an all over sparkle.

N: Nude

For daytime protection, try using a good sunblock instead, such as Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF 55 PA+++ . P: Purple

Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta and Dior were all sporting ‘the’ beauty color of the season: purple. A great transitional color between seasons, purple is a sultry shade that wraps up autumn. Give blue eyes a flash of pop for the party season ahead and wash a purple shimmer over the lids right up to the brow. Add a deeper purple across the lids, and finish with a dark plum liner across the top lid. For lips, opt for an allover matte pout, but keep the rest of face neutral. Make-up Trend: Easy Subtle Blush

Who has time to fuss with complex beauty looks when you're a mom-on-the-go like Karisma Kapoor? The key to getting a 30-second face is to use products that multi-task and take seconds to use.

After smoothing out your complexion with a tinted moisturizer (hydrate skin and even out your skintone in one step), blend a touch of luminizing cream blush in a subtle pink shade (highlight cheekbones while you impart color), and you're ready to go!

Make-up Trend: Thick Charcoal Eyeliner

If you're too timid to take the smoky-eye plunge (but still want all eyes on yours), take a cue from Karisma Kapoor. Rim your eyes with a thick band of deep, glimmering gunmetal navy blue eye shadow and wear neutral on the rest of the lid.

Brush it on keeping it thick! A standard eye liner brush will give you a precise, defined line. Instead, use a shadow brush, which will produce a rich, blurred thick line.

Make-up Trend: Thick, Arched Eyebrows

Make-up Trend: Eyelash Stains

Think the only way to get lash definition is with thick coats of lengthening, plumping, intensifying formulas? Not so much. For a subtle daytime enhancement, turn to a low-drama lash tint—a liquid product that goes on like mascara and darkens lashes, but doesn't clump or smudge, so it gives a more natural look.

Karisma Kapoor amps up her light lashes with a dark tint; if your lashes are naturally dark, you can achieve the same effect as a tint by using a clear mascara.

Start of by applying Clarins Instant Light Perfecting Touch, which adds a luminescent effect as well as conceals imperfections (not that Kareena has any!) Apply Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Apricot on your cheeks.
To get Kareena's smokey eyed look, you need Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Apricot. Apply the last stripe (peachy-nude) from the Shimmer Brick all over the lid, apply the third stripe (bronze-peach) on the outter lid and smoke it out, as well as line the upper lid and lower lash line with it. Apply M.A.C Liquid Liner in Boot Black on your top lid. Apply M.A.C Eye Kohl in Smolder in the waterline. Lastly apply Estée Lauder Magnascopic Maximum Volume Mascara for a gorgeous flutter.
