Make-up Trend: Dramatic Eyes & Lips

Usually it's a beauty no-no to pair dark lips with anything other than clear, flawless skin. But on the latest issue of Verve, Deepika Padukone's makeup artist Mickey Contractor helped the star get it exactly right, combining a matte burgundy lip with dramatic lashes and bronzy shadow. The brown and gold shadow make Deepika’s beautiful brown eyes radiate, plus, the lips tie the look together. The reason the two elements didn't compete? The absence of dark shadows like black and gray. By using warmer tones and just a touch of natural shimmery cheek color, the focus stayed on her gorgeous skin, eyes and lips.

Make-up Trend: Bright Springtime Lips

On the latest issue of Vogue India, Deepika Padukone rocks a fierce hot pink lipstick. When you're selecting an edgier hue, don't consider a swipe on the back of your hand an adequate test-drive. Instead, dab it on your fingertip, where the skin is closest in color and texture to your actual lips.

Valentine's Day Looks via Vogue India

This look is sheer romance with soft pink lips, shimmering eyes and just a hint of kohl and mascara. To recreate, keep the complexion dewy, like Sonakshi’s by applying a light pink blush directly on the apples of your cheeks. Dust some iridescent powder all over your face and you’re good to go. We love M.A.C Plushglass in Big Kiss for a kissable pout.

Got a hot date? Take a cue from Deepika and opt for bold red lips paired with thick eye liner and tons of mascara. Highlight your facial contours with Clarins Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour in Spiced Mocha for the perfect finish.

Nothing spells seductive like subtle-smoky eyes and loose soft curls framing your face. Copy Mila’s take on this popular look and opt for earthy shades of taupe, cocoa and copper for your eye shadow. Use some kohl on the water line for more definition and finish with a creamy, beige-nude lip colour. Try YSL Rouge Volupte Perle in 101 Beige Caress.

Make-up Trend: Frosty Pink Lips

Looking futuristic-chic on this month's of Grazia India is Deepika Padukone. Her icy, petal pink lipstick at completed the look she was going for. We thought frosty shades went out with feathered bangs and contoured cheeks in the '80s, but Deepika made it modern by choosing a delicate shade and applying a thorough, nearly opaque coat. Leave it to this trendsetter to completely wow us!

Bridal Trends 2011 [Vogue India]

On the most important day of your life, transform into a bridal goddess everyone will remember for years to come. Say goodbye to over-the-top bridal make-up that will embarrass you every time you flip through your wedding album, and hello to the beautiful Indian bride with just the right amount of make-up. Take a cue from the lovely Deepika Padukone, who has a gorgeous take on bridal beauty with dewy cheeks, shimmery eyes and a glossy pout.

Get the look: Start with a clean and well moisturized face and apply a foundation primer to ensure your make-up lasts all through the ceremony. Use a creamy, long lasting concealer to cover any dark circles or blemishes. With light strokes, blend the foundation in circles over your skin to get an even base. Dramatic eyes and a bronzy skin make Deepika look like a perfect Indian bride. To achieve this, sweep some bronze-gold eyeshadow over your eye lids and draw an extended eye liner wing with a black eye liner. Create drama by lining your water line and draw a thick line close to your lower eye lid. Accentuate your eyes by using some fake eye lashes and sweep a coat of intense mascara. Create a bronze glow by using a blush on the apple of your cheeks and dust a bit of bronzing powder over your face for a glow-from-within complexion. A creamy lipstick and a coat of high shine gloss complete the look.

Make-up Trend: A Chocolate Affair (Vogue India)

As desis we have always been partial to brown. Blame it on our gorgeous skin colour, brown is officially the most popular shade in Indian vanity boxes. From that dark cocoa lipstick in your mum’s purse to that latest matte chocolate eye shadow you’ve been eyeing, there’s something about this shade that warms our heart and makes its way into our makeup kits. The smoky caramel eyes at Shantanu and Nikhil and Cavalli, the pale beige lips at Ekru and Chloe and the bronze and gold at Oscar de la Renta, this season celebrates the comeback of The New Brown.

For your eyes: use soft brown shades like toffee and caramel for an au natural, daytime look. Add a little sweep of bronze and gold and you’re ready for an evening out. We love Guerlain Écrin 6 Couleurs Rue Des Franco in Bourgeois, a 5 shade eye shadow palette with scrumptious shades in the brown family.

For your lips: a glossy pale beige lipstick is your best bet for wearing make up at work. Use a deeper, darker mocha or chocolate lipstick for a look that will take you from AM to PM. If you’re looking for the perfect matte brown lipstick we suggest YSL Rouge Volupte in Divine Mahogany.

For your nails: Bright colored nails are passé. For autumn paint your talons in shades of mushroom, sepia and cocoa. Try OPI’s Tickle My France-y or Leighton and Denny’s Brief Encounter and join the brown brigade.

Make-up Trend: Copper-Gold Eye Shadow

Copper gold eye shadow is an instant eye brightener during the winter months. To key in to the trend, try dusting your lashlines with a copper tone on your lids and gold along your brow bones like Deepika Padukone did at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. You'll be surprised, the versatile metallic hue is flattering on nearly every skin tone.

Vogue India: The Blush Factor

Come fall and most of us worry about bidding goodbye to rosy cheeks and brighter hues. Fall doesn’t necessarily mean pale complexions and muted tones raining on your make-up parade. Take a cue from our lovely ladies, and make blush your new best friend. If you’re blessed with a flawless milky white complexion a la Kareena Kapoor, peach or pink blush tones would infuse a youthful tint to your face. Dusky beauties like Deepika or Chitrangada should opt for blushes with brown or orange tones, just perfect to bring a warm glow to those cheeks.  Cream or powder, sheer or matte, this season mimic a rosy glow and a luminous complexion and get prepared to show some of those chiselled cheekbones with a hint of blush of course.

Hair Trend: Sleek, Shiny Hair

On the cover of the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar India, Deepika Padukone sports a straight, swingy hairstyle. To get the best results with your own hair, consider taking a tip from the pros: Shampoo twice to remove all traces of residue from your hair shaft. The first wash removes product build-up, the second whisks away dirt and impurities—and ultra-clean hair dries ultra-bouncy.

Make-up Trend: Sultry Smoky Eyes

Looking casual, yet chic on this month's issue of Vogue India is none other than Deepika Padukone. MAC's Mickey Contractor focused on a smudged, smoky kohl eye, "We aimed for a not-so-perfect look, a little messy." To get her look, line your upper and lower lashes with a creamy black pencil. Apply dark charcoal powder shadow on your lids. Add a shimmery ivory shadow in your inner corners and brow bone. Mickey contrasted that with a nude lip and gives us a key tip to achieve this look, "Use concealer with lipgloss for the perfect nude lip which is huge this season."

Make-up Trend: A Springtime Red Lip

Rekha and Sonam Kapoor show us that age is not a factor when it comes to a classic red lip. On the latest cover of Filmfare they show us red lips are appropriate in any season. If you're a big fan of red lips and are unsure how to wear them in the spring, look for a shade that's slightly more pink. Also, skip matte formulas which can feel too stiff. A swipe of sheer balm will give even bold colors a lightweight and airy feeling.

Hair Trend: Easy Breezy Waves

On the latest issue of Savvy Magazine, Deepika Padukone showed off an easy and sophisticated hair-do. The key to achieving these waves is to build a good foundation, which will help the hair from falling flat. To get the look, apply styling mousse, blow dry the hair, and add random spirals with a 1-1/2 inch curling iron. The middle parting gives it modernity and movement. This is a great hairstyle for women who don't like to fuss too much with their hair.

LFW'10 Make-up Trends: Brown-Red Lips [Shantanu and Nikhil]

Deepika Padukone walked the runway for Shantanu and Nikhil in a yellow and black ensemble. To recreate her look line your upper lid with a black liquid eyeliner. Apply a mixture of brown and gold shadow and make sure to blend the two real well. Brush a bronzy-peach blush on the cheekbones, and blend out to the hairline. After applying a hydrating lip balm first, smooth on a matte reddish-brown lipstick to finish the look.

Make-up Trend: Contoured Eye Shadow

On the latest issue of Maxim India Deepika shows us a sophisticated, sculpted and elegant look that can be entirely modern. Blend a lighter shade up to the crease of your lid, then top it with a darker hue along the brow bone. Use a soft brush—not the wand some shadows come with—for more even coverage. Use your index finger to smudge yellow gold shadow in the inner corners of your eyes for a playful touch of light. Finish off with some eyeliner and mascara and you're all set.

All four of them look absolutely stunning on their respective covers. One thing they all have in common is gorgeous skin. Make-up Trend: Spiky False Lashes

At the Apsara Awards, Deepika Padukone made her lids stand out with some serious false lashes. The key to her look? A strip of falsies that alternates lengths from extra-long to short and wispy, making them voluminous and ultra-feminine in one fell swoop. Just be sure to trim the strip to fit the curve of your lash line—false lashes that are too long tend to slip off in the blink of an eye.

Deepika's Take on Beauty, Fitness and Make-up

She’s gorgeous, successful and stunningly beautiful. Compliment her about her looks and she says matter-of-factly, “Beauty is merely skin deep. Yes, I need to look good but I am not overly obsessed with being beautiful. In fact, I am quite happy with what God’s given me. Beauty to me is basically looking after myself.”

Gorgeous Skin: “As an actress , makeup is my best friend. But when I am not shooting, I avoid wearing makeup. My skin needs to breathe so I stick to the basics like moisturizer and lip balm. My daily skincare regimen involves cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Healthy skin needs mild cleansing, for which I use gentle soaps. I also keep my skin clean by going for regular cleanups. I am really not into facials so I mostly avoid them. Also, I am very particular about removing my makeup before I go to bed.”

Body Beautiful
: “A healthy body should be a priority for everyone – I make it mine too! My dad (former badminton champ Prakash Padukone) has inculcated in me the value of being fit. I start off with a rejuvenating weekly body massage with lukewarm coconut or baby oil. I also drink a lot of water as the body needs proper hydration. It also keeps the skin supple.”

Fit Facts: “I work out as often as possible. Since I am regularly traveling, it becomes difficult to have a daily workout routine but whenever I hit the gym, I do cardio and light weights. I have an athletic body, thanks to the years I dedicated to badminton, but I do concentrate on my butt area.”

Eating Right: “I absolutely love food but I always make sure I have a balanced diet with enough carbs and proteins, and am also very particular about dietary proportions. I have three main meals in a day, breakfast being the most important of them all. I love eating South Indian food but since it can be heavy sometimes, I try and balance it by say, having a dosa minus the potato filling. If I am having eggs, I eat egg-whites only and if I have idlis, I substitute coconut chutney with mint chutney.”

Beauty Buzz
: “Simple and quick! A healthy lifestyle, nutritious diet and the correct skincare and fitness regimen all go hand in hand to make possible a beautiful you today and tomorrow. I am a firm believer in skincare... the natural way. One should never try to go overboard on any products, as I think the more you experiment with your skin, the worse it gets. Always stick to the basics of skincare.”

Make-up Fixes: “Makeup artistes can give you any amount of makeup tips but just remember one should never put too many good things together; they all get lost. Let few great things shine through. For instance, if I enhance my eyes with kohl, I keep my lips bare or just dab some lip balm. And honesty, the less the makeup, the less plastic you look.”
