Thank you to Meena Ansari, (my blog's biggest fan) for this article.
Priyanka Chopra, won both Miss India and Miss World in 2000, at the age of 17. Soon after, in 2002, she began her Bollywood career with the The Hero. She now shoots about four movies a year, among many other projects. She’s not afraid of a 20-hour work day — or junk food. I recently got to share a few beauty moments with her.
T Magazine: I am a huge fan of eyeliner. First off, I want to know about kajal kohl. Is it always a cone shape? How is it applied?
Priyanka Chopra: The cone-shape kajal is actually Arabic. With that, a woman closes her eye on on the tip and runs it back and forth along the rim. Traditional Indian kajal kohl comes in a long, slim box. A woman takes her fingertip, rubs it into the kohl and applies it directly to the rim of her eye. It also has eye-brightening ingredients in it, such as eucalyptus. Modern-day Indian women don’t use it very much, though. They use pencils.
T: I suppose a pencil is a bit neater than having black fingertips. What pencils do you like?
PC: M.A.C Teddy Eye Kohl, a bronzy brown, is my favorite. I usually smudge that into Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in Black. But the most magical is the M.A.C. black liner in a pot, in Black Track. I apply this to the inner rim of my eye with a firm brush, and it doesn’t move at all. It never irritates my eyes. It is great for swimming, rain or crying scenes.
T: I’m checking out your everyday makeup now. The colors meld into your skin tone beautifully, the way natural looking makeup should. What do you rely on to create this effect?
PC: I must have my Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Honey. There are so few that are yellow enough for my skin. I apply that where needed and then M.A.C. Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NC43. My favorite blush is Nars Orgasm Blush. My lips are usually M.A.C. Spice Lip Pencil, or a Laura Mercier Mulberry Lip Stain. Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara is a must.
T: I know threading is of Indian origin. Is that how you keep your brows in such lovely shape?
PC: Yes. Threading is wonderful! It stays clean for a week. So it lasts longer that plucking.
T: Are you into yoga or any ayurvedic practices?
PC: No, not really.
T: What about your diet?
PC: I love junk food! The pizza in Bombay, where I live, is so good. French fries are like my soul food. Great to cure the blues. I also like Indian food, but not the healthy kind.
T: You would never know it looking at your skin, it’s so clear and smooth. How do you take care of it?
PC: No. 1, I have good genes. But it’s also very important to drink a ton of water. I think it’s the best way to keep it moist from within. It also cleanses all the toxins out of your body, helping your skin look clearer. At night it’s essential to remove all makeup and dirt thoroughly. You must let your skin breathe and regenerate.
T: What products do you use at night?
PC: Usually, Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, followed by Garnier Nutritioniste Nutri Pure Detoxifying Cream Cleanser or Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel. I use Garnier Vital Restore Night Cream. For eye cream, Strivectin works best for me.
T: Are there any fragrances you are loving right now?
PC: I’m a huge fan of Jo Malone fragrances. Especially, Lime Basil & Mandarin and Vintage Gardenia. Sometimes I switch off and go with Dolce and Gabbana The One.
T: Any secrets to achieving your silky, shiny hair?
PC: Most come from the kitchen. Beer and egg are great for the hair. Yogurt is excellent for helping with dandruff. And in India we do a lot of warm coconut oil deep-conditioning treatments. Massage coconut oil directly into scalp. This way it gets to the root, so the hair grows in healthier. For puffy eyes, I like to freeze any kind of steeped tea bags. Let them sit a minute, so they’re not too cold, before placing on the eye area. You’ll see an instant difference.
T: Do you have any comfort items in your bag?
PC: My fragrance, Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil and Dentyne Ice gum. I always have some sort of candy in my purse … did I mention how much I like sugar?

Make-up Trend: Bronze Eyes & Cheeks
Looking like a bronze goddess on this month's issue of Harper's Bazaar India is none other than Priyanka Chopra. To get her sun-kissed glow, focus on your cheeks and keep the make-up on your eyes and lips minimal. Start the look by, damping your eye shadow brush and apply a mocha-brown eye shadow over your lids, blending all the way up to your eyebrows. Re-dip the brush into the shadow, then run it along your lower lashes in place of liner, and skip mascara. Dust bronzer over your forehead, cheeks, and chin and swirl a rosy-pink blush over the apples of your cheeks. Slick on a creamy lipstick that is one shade darker than your natural lip color.

Make-up Trend: Smudgy Smoky Shadow
On the latest issue of Vogue India, Priyanka rocks a smudgy smoky eye with nude barely there lips. To get her look, lightly sweep charcoal gray eye shadow on your lids, extending and darkening it just above the crease. Then draw it along your lower lash line, softening any harsh lines with your fingers. With your fingers, apply silver eye shadow under your brows for a subtle highlight. Using an angled brush to trace black eye liner on the top and bottom lashes, thickening the line just a bit at the outer corners. Finish off with 3-4 coats of mascara and you're all set.

Beauty Talk With Priyanka Chopra

I would define it as someone who is ‘comfortable’ in their own skin! I think more than good looks, it’s a person’s attitude and the way they dress that determines how they are viewed.
Her skin care regimen:
It’s simple! Cleansing, toning and moisturizing everyday and drinking lots of water.

Her hair care regimen:
My hair is very healthy and naturally strong and shiny. Because of my profession, my hair is battered and abused! Therefore, I make it point to oil my hair regularly and shampoo and condition it as well with Sunsilk shampoo and conditioner. I trim my hair once in about 2 months or as and when I feel the need and avoid highlighting my hair.

Her favorite make-up, hair and skin products:
I use YSL Luxurious Mascara, M.A.C Studio Fix Powder, M.A.C blushes, The Body Shop Lip Balms, Clarins HydraQuench Cream. Aloe Vera is great for the skin. I love Sunsilk shampoo and conditioner.

On bad hair days:
When I have bad hair days, the first thing I do is send a text to my hair stylist.

When skin feels bad:
Firstly, I make it a point to drink lots of water to hydrate my skin and apply my mother’s secret recipe… a face mask!

Favourite make-up trick:
I would say highlight your assets. If it’s your eyes then applying kajal and a little liner works best. For your cheek bones, the right blush will do the trick. It’s important for one to know the colors that complement you and what your best features are.

Any make up tips:

Her wellness and fitness mantra:
I work 19 hours a day… am over stressed, over worked and under paid!!!!! I would love to visit a spa as often as I can but with my hectic schedule, I don’t really get a chance to.

Favourite spa treatment:
I enjoy all aspects of a spa experience and don’t have a particular favourite. But if I was forced to make a choice it would have to be the Kerala Ayurvedic Spa treatment.

On look Created By Jawed Habib For Sunsilk Thick & Long
Sunsilk shampoo and conditioner gives me full control over my hair. A girl’s hair is truly one of her best assets. The exceptionally trendy and stylish hairstyles created by Jawed give out a very strong message which is – If you’re lucky to have thick, gorgeous hair, show them off. My firm belief is that if a woman has thick, healthy-looking hair she is bound to get a second glance. I think these looks created by Habib do the trick—they are very striking. I make sure to pamper myself to a regular head message—it does wonders for your hair texture and feels so good. I eat healthy, drink lots of water and of course, I use Sunsilk Thick & Long with yogurt protein, which is a natural remedy for damaged hair. When you buy shampoo look for yogurt in its ingredients. Sunsilk Thick & Long has yogurt protein which nourishes hair right to the tips.

Make-up Trend: Nude Lips
Applying nude lip gloss straight to your lips can give you a messy, muddy color. To get the bare hue just right, first neutralize the pink tones in your lips by dabbing foundation onto your mouth with a makeup wedge. After that dries, swipe on a shiny nude gloss for a pout as sexy Priyanka Chopra's.

Make-up Trend: Smoky, Silver Eyes

Makeup on the lower lashline usually migrates down the face, resulting in a messy morning morning-after look. Get your sultry shadow to stay put like Priyanka's using a liquid formula, like Chanel Ombre D'eau, which dries into a longwear powder using polymers.

Harper's Bazaar Tells Us Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra's Beauty Secrets
- What's your makeup routine?
There is no makeup 'routine'… When I am not shooting, I prefer to stay away from any embellishments. But yes, I always keep bare essentials, such as lip balm, at hand. - And for the big night out?
I don't use a heavy hand while doing makeup but I do pay a little more attention to my eyes when it's a big night. Doing up your eyes well makes you look fresh and alive. - What are your favorite products?
I don't have any favorites. What matters to me is that the product has to be from a reputed company. There has to be a certain amount of credibility. I feel that even if it may work out a bit more expensive, it's worth it. - What's your favorite perfume?
When I shop for perfumes (invariably in duty-free stores, while I'm traveling), I check out the new fragrances and pick up whatever catches my fancy me wearing makeup from morning to evening. Even if your lifestyle doesn't necessarily involve makeup, it's very important to use a good cleanser to remove the day's grime. Another well-known trick is to consume the right amount of water-it keeps your skin glowing.
- How do you keep your hair looking so good?
My hair suffers quite a bit, thanks to the number of products that are used during shoots to style it. I try and take care of it by using serums or going for a hair spa. I get my hair trimmed from a good hairdresser once a month. In Mumbai, I go to Asif Rajan, Dilshad Pastakia or Sapna Bhavnani. - Do you have a special diet?
I'm not sure if you could call it a 'diet' but I do try and eat right. When I say eat right, I mean eating the right foods, in right quantities, at the right time. If you follow this mantra, you're sure to be not just in better shape but also feel much healthier from within. - What's your DIY beauty routine?
The only one I adhere to religiously is 'take off your makeup' before you hit the bed. It helps tremendously! - One simple trick that makes you look fabulous?
The way you look, honestly, has a lot to do with how you feel. When you are calm within, the smile naturally comes easier on the face.

- What is your daily makeup and beauty routine?
Cleanse, tone and moisturize-nothing works better for me. As an actor, I'm required to wear a lot of makeup, whether it's for films, photo-shoots or appearances. So when I'm not working, my routine is very basic. The things that I carry with me at all times are my Pond's Perfect Results Multi-Benefit Cream and M.A.C Studio Fix. - And what about the big night out?
When I'm not making a public appearance, I use absolutely minimal makeup and spice it up with eyeliner, blush and lipstick. I slip on a sexy short dress and high heels, and I'm set!
- Any favorite perfumes?
Smelling good is a must, no matter where you are or what you're doing. My current preference is Dolce & Gabbana The One, but my all time favorite is Ralph Lauren Romance. - How do you take care of your flawless skin?
Quite simple-cleanse, tone and moisturize. On my days off, I don't do much; I just allow my skin to breathe. I also drink lots of water and never forget my multi-vitamins. I think it's important to pamper your skin as often as you can. My crazy schedule doesn't allow me the luxury very often, but I try and get in a facial whenever possible.
- What do you do for your hair?
Because of my profession, my hair is battered and abused. Given the trauma I put my hair through, I give it extra care. I oil my hair regularly and condition it as well. I trim my hair once in about two months or as and when I feel the need. I have different hairstylists for various films, but primarily they are Minal Sharma and Kanta Motwani.
- Any favorite hair products?
Anything that is Sunsilk. - Do you have a special diet to stay so slim?
It's called good genetics and a great metabolism. Honestly, I am a complete foodie and a junk-a-holic. Diets don't work for me. I try and eat healthy most of the time but also don't stop myself from eating what I feel like, whether it's a pepperoni pizza or aloo paratha! - One simple trick that makes you fabulous?
Comfort, and knowing what suits you- the fit, style and look-whether it's hair, clothes or makeup. What are you buying for this season? I never have an agenda. I just pick up what I like.
