Tips For Makeup

1. The best way to know which make up will bring out the best in you and which will not, can only be determined through trial and error method. So, do not hesitate to experiment with cosmetics and colors until you find the right one for yourself.

2. Knowing the product range that suits your skin type is very essential. Do not compromise on cosmetics, you will be applying these directly on your skin and your skin is delicate.

3. You can experiment with different shades of eye shadows and blushers, and plan makeup in a way that would complement your hair color.

4. Getting the right makeup tools is also an important part of makeup. So you must always ensure that you have make-up sponge, powder brush, blusher brush, eye shadow brush, eyebrow tweezers, lip brush and eyelash curlers in your cosmetics bag.

5. For your eye make up, choosing eyeliners that would suit your eye color would be the best idea. You can use kohl or kajal to enhance the shape of you eyes. Application of false eyelashes and eye shadow will enhance the effect.

6. Never wear make up for long stretches of time. Remember your skin needs to breathe. If you have to use make up very frequently, have a rigid cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine in place. This will help to keep your skin firm, and radiant.
7. While applying any kind of foundation or base make up, use a cosmetic sponge, slightly dampened, to blend it well onto the skin. Always give all angles of your face a final check in the mirror to ensure that no unnatural lines are showing.
8. If you are using more than one shade of base make up to highlight the different areas of your face, make sure that the shades are merged well. The two shades should not stand out.

9. Always keep stick, liquid or cream concealers handy. These are great ways of hiding blemishes, scars and dark spots on your face. Apply on the area concerned (under eye regions too) after application of foundation. Finish it off with a dash of powder to give the well blended look.

10. Choosing lip-gloss and lipsticks is another integral part of ensuring you have the correct makeup. Opt for ones which have moisturizers in them to keep your lips nourished. One of the popular lip make up application techniques is to dust your lips with a light powder. Outline your lips with lip liner and use lip brush to fill in with lipstick. Blot over tissue paper to make your lipstick last longer and also to get a matte finish. Choose colors that complement both your hair and skin color. For more hair tips surf the beautytipshub.

Apply eyeshadow professionally

Step1: Blending is a key

You use three different colors: The base, usually a very light taupe, a highlighter for the crease and a main color for the lid, but how to get them to look as if they merge into each other like the colors of a rainbow?

My secret: Start light then go darker. Brush the base color to the entire eye up to the brow bone (base is the lightest color), apply the lid color (the medium color) and THEN apply the highlighter (the darkest color). Also, don't be too heavy-handed or you'll have to start over.

Step 2 : Choose shadows that make the color of your eyes pop

Gone are the days when beauty experts advised against blue shadow. Matching the color of your eye with a shadow actually brings the color out (think blue shadow on blue eyes). At the same time, contrasting colors make eyes pop too (think a deep jeweled blue shadow on deep brown eyes or gorgeous golds with blue eyes).

Step 3 : Never apply deep color to your browbone -- unless you're doing a cover shoot for Vogue

You don't want the drama too much shadow brings. Apply shadow up to the browbone but don't apply shadow ON the bone unless it's a neutral color.

Step 4: Highlighter can make or break your look

When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge. Get to close to the eye and you'll cause your eyes to look teeny and beady.

Step 5: Set shadow with a great base

Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours. I've found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base, or primer. Almost everyone makes them but I swear by Urban Decay's Primer Potion.

I apply Urban Decay Primer Potion at the beginning of the day and sweep my favorite Christian Dior shadow over it and the shadow stays on all day long with nary a smudge, even through hardcore workouts with my personal trainer. You cannot beat that.

Step 6 : Shimmer is hot, but plays up wrinkles

Shimmer makes eyes really pop, but it also highlights heavy lids, lines and wrinkles. If you don't have wrinkled eyelids yet (I do and I don't care!), try this great look for shimmer: create a "nude" lid, but apply a bit of gold shimmer to the browbone. Gorgeous!

Step 7 : Smokey is great, but keep it to the lid

Making up a smokey eye? Keep color to the lid and just under the lower lashline. Don't extend color above the crease.

Step 8 : How to pair shadow with red lips

Remember the beauty rule "Thou Shalt Not Play up the Lips AND the Mouth." If you're going for dramatic red lips (never out of fashion), cover unsightly blue lines on lids with a concealer or shadow primer and then keep eyeshadow light.

Step 9 : Make eyes brighter with white

A dot of white shadow or pencil on the inside of the eye near the tear duct will make eyes look brighter. You won't believe how eye-opening this is. It works so great, I use this trick even when doing my makeup for work.

Step 10 : Go for color

I love going to Sephora and trying out different shades on my lids just for something different. Taupe and lavender look great on all eye colors. Also consider mixing shades if you bought a color that's just too bold for you. Mixing an electric blue with taupe can turn out the most perfect color.

Tips : Applying liquid eyeliner

We would like to guide you to apply liquid eyeliner effectively and without any mistake. See how the professional makeup artists apply their own liquid eyeliner with this step by step guide.

1. Preparing

- A liquid eyeliner

- Make up remover

- Cotton bud

2. Before you start

Prepare the skin with a layer of foundation over the eyelids to help the eyeliner go on smoothly, although this is not important.

3. How to apply

Eyeliner can either be applied as brush or fibre tip, or my personal favourite is a cream to powder eyeshadow in black or dark brown as it is easy to vary the thickness of the line.

Liquid eyeliner should be applied along the roots of the upper lashes working up and out from the inner corners outwards. If you can’t draw in 1 smooth motion, draw a succession of little lines along the upper lashes and join them up.

The line should be thicker at the outer corners of the eyes to make them look bigger.

Next, draw a line along the roots of the lower lashes, stopping halfway along and working from the outer corner inwards.

4. The Flick

To create a “flick” beyond the outer corner of each eye, press a credit card or ruler at an angle against the corner of your eye and draw along it.

5. Mistakes

If you make any mistakes, use a make-up corrector pen or some cleanser on a cotton bud to wipe the make-up away.

Hand Care

Hand Care

Always wear rubber gloves when you plan to do any household work or gardening. If your hands are exposed to too much water, soap, detergents, dirt or chemicals then, the skin of your hands can become wrinkled and rough.

Ideally, you should moisturize your hands at least 4 times in a day, especially after washing them. Even if you do not have time make it a habit of moisturizing your hands before you go to bed at night. This is just as important as brushing you teeth before you go to bed, every night.

You can also use your face exfoliator on your hands. This will help to remove any dirt and dead skin cells, and nourish and rejuvenate the skin of your hands.

You can scrub your hands with bath salts, after washing them with soap. This will leave your hands squeaky clean. Do remember to slather some moisturizer on your hands afterwards.

If you have oily hands, you can try rubbing cornmeal on them after washing them with soap.

Go in for regular manicures (professional or homemade) to keep your hands and nails in good condition.

Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juices. Eat a balanced, low-oil diet.

Exercise regularly. If you are healthy and fit, you skin will have a healthy glow.

If the skin of your hands is dry and flaky—you can massage a little petroleum jelly on your hands before you go to bed at night. After you do this, you may wear thin cotton gloves. Wake up in the morning and enjoy the soft feel of your hands.

How to Remove Cellulite Permanently ??

The fight with cellulite is ruthlessly cruel, but a few simple rules will help you beat cellulite.

The warm weather outside and hint for the upcoming summer may frighten you only if you are concerned by your orange skin.

Cellulite may be really a great scourge, and fighting it is not always successful.

Even if you spend a fortune on cosmetics fighting cellulite, the effect of it may not be so visible. However, there are several rules that have been tested by thousands of women worldwide and in most cases work – they sleek orange skin and refresh it.

We of course are out of the rush to share them, so be ready. Here they are:

Water element

Water is the most useful liquid, but retention in the cells exacerbated the problem of cellulite vision to intrusive. Removal of the excess fluid from the fat cells will quickly fill irregularities in your skin and it will become unrecognizable smooth. You should limit the intake of salt. Drink more water and eat regular natural diuretics such as cranberry, celery, fennel and more exotic asparagus.

Burn the fats

Thin women also have cellulite, but if you have extra fat it may strongly worsen the situation.

Diet with 1400 calories a day /which we will soon offer you details/ and more intensive movements could help in the “combustion“ of subcutaneous fat.

Feed your skin

If you have excess weight, however, it does not mean you should stop taking all the fat in food, as some of them, omega 3 and omega 6 are essential for your metabolism. In addition, they play an important role in feeding and hydratating your skin, as they improve water retention in the cells of the epidermis and not in fat cells.

Therefore, any fish, nuts, seeds and oils are required for your menu.

A regular visit to the dentist is also a necessity to ensure that there are no bacterial formations on the teeth or conditions that may lead to tooth decay or cavities. The tooth can be classified into the following parts:

Dental care is necessary to ensure that cavities do not form in the teeth with time. For children, a regular dental checkup is absolutely necessary as decays form on their teeth due their affinity for chocolates and sweets. What is acne?

Are you disturbed with the acne marks on your face and very eagerly want to know what is acne? Don't worry, like you many young boys and girls, especially teenagers are bearing the trauma of acne. They try different options to get rid of it. Sometimes they follow the advertisements on TV and rush to the shop to buy an acne control cream. After using these for a few days, they again start their new journey with a different acne protection product. This time may be they are influenced by the advertisements given in a reputed newspaper or in a magazine. The source may be anything. The main thing is to understand the reason why you are prone to acne again and again whereas you are trying almost all options you can.

Some people mark acne as a cause of eating fast food dishes or any rich meal. You may also heard such things from your elders. But the truth says a little else thing. After research scientists have come to the conclusion that during your teenage you go through different changes in your body. At this time androgens create a great effect on you. Either you are a male or a female sex, you possess an increase level of androgen. Your face gets an extra oil and this is sebum. Androgen is the male sex hormone and due to its effect sebum is produced. When your face fills with an excess amount of oil, the oil gland gets some obstacle and at the end blocks. Now you discover some marks on your face which is very well known as acne.

However there are many causes which work behind the attack of an acne. Doctors say that little careful measures can help you to prevent acne. The other factors of acne are such as---

1. Stress and tension

2. Not staying neat and clean.

3. Inadequate diet, etc.

4. Effects of acne on your body

By the way, acne can affect you at any part of your body. If you are thinking that only your face is vulnerable to acne, you will be wrong. There are many parts of your body which get an acne. All these parts are affected for poor hygiene too. But it is your face which gets it much in comparison. The areas are---

Face ,Chest, Neck, Upper arms, Shoulders, Back

Your legs generally have less chance to get affected by acne. You may find people with acne go through the condition of pigmentation and scarring. They experience dark spot, red spot, and discolored mark on their skin. These marks remain even when they are not getting acne on their skin. Gradually these marks dissolve.

Types of acne

Usually there are two kinds of acne -- non-inflammatory and inflammatory. Most people suffer from non-inflammatory type of acne. This kind of acne is cured easily. After getting medicines from market, you can remove these types of acne. These appear in form of blackheads or whiteheads on your face.

The problem occurs in case of inflammatory acne. When your whitehead gets affected and reed colors of pimples appear, you face difficulties. The more horrible side of this kind of acne is that after inflammation the acne gets changed into cysts. Slowly it turns into scars on your face, neck or on back. In such cases you need to contact your doctor and take the medicines properly. Sometimes if the acne becomes severe, you may have to undergo with some surgeries. Your doctor will help you during this situation.

Prom Ideas

The idea of prom night should preferably be innovative and eye catching. Prom idea is one of the most important decision that a concerned committee will make. Keeping in mind with small details, you can make huge difference in prom night. Instead of focusing on single prom idea, it is better to go for multiple prom ideas and then pick up the most suitable one. This will bring variations in prom night and students will surely enjoy a lot.

Today, the whole world is taking various initiative in preserving the green of the earth. You can also show your deep concern in preserving Mother nature, by choosing prom ideas that are eco-friendly. One of the great eco-friendly prom theme is to create car-pool for prom. It is very awesome step to turn your prom towards concern for nature. Instead of renting a bus, people can car pool in group on bikes. The students can wear jeans or trousers under their glamorous prom dress and arrive in prom on their respective bikes.

Picking up the correct location plays important role in deciding the extent of eco-friendliness of your prom. You can spent huge amount in maintaining the green of the location, but the requirements of air-conditions spoils the eco-friendly nature of the prom night. You must look for prom location, that circulates the air freely. This means a location with large windows and well-ventilation will be suitable. This natural look will also become added attraction of the prom. Just imagine, in place of stale air of air condition, fresh breeze of nature will fill your room coolness and comfortableness.

The lighting of the building also determines, whether you are eco-friendly or not. Locate the buildings who have upgraded to eco-friendly mode of operation like green light bulbs, colling systems updated to become friendly with nature. In fact, you might be surprised to know that this trend is fast becoming the latest trend in several major cities of the world. This kind of building is called green building and in many places they rent to host numerous events and parties. Search your local areas and you might find one green building for your prom venue.

In any prom night, food is important. It is obvious that proms will have tables for keeping food and drinks. Not only in prom, most of the parties and events use disposable cups, plates and glasses. This contributes to the garbage as well. But if you use real dishes, plates and cups then you will be saving the Nature from the wrath of garbage. The committee might form a group to wash the dishes and plates afterwards.

Another way of turning eco-friendly is to serve food on room temperature. There are many food items that can be served on room temperature. With this small step you can save running burners, electricity from wastage and contribute to saving natural resources. The garbages of the prom night can be used for land-fill also.

Eyebrow Waxing

Unless you have very sensitive skin, waxing is a quick and relatively easy alternative to plucking your eyebrows. Although it is generally best to get eyebrows waxed professionally it can be expensive - up to around $15 as a general rule, although salons do differ. If you have a tighter budget, or if you are feeling fairly brave, here are some simple steps for you to try at home...

1) Preparing the Eyebrow

Brush the eyebrow into place with a baby toothbrush or clean mascara wand, so that their natural shape is neatly defined. Next, apply an astringent such as witch hazel to anesthetize the sensitive skin under the brow. Work out your natural brow shape by standing several feet away from a mirror, and following these simple steps?

Working out the length of the eyebrow

Hold a ruler parallel to your nose, and level with the inner corner of the eye, to work out where the brow should begin. If your eyes are close together, make the gap between the brows wider. If your eyes are far apart, don?t wax the start line of the brow too much so that they are closer together. Mark the correct point with a dot.

Working out the curve of the eyebrow

You can work out where the highest point of the curve/ arch should be by holding a ruler from the edge of the nostril past the outer edge of the iris (the colored part of the eye) and up to the eyebrow. Mark the spot with a dot.

Final planning

Now link up the dots in a gentle arch to draw on the ideal shape of the eyebrow that you want to achieve. This will give you a guideline to go by when applying the wax. You should aim for a smooth arched brow that tapers slightly at the outer ends.

2) Applying the Wax

Buy a professional waxing kit - basically a jar or tub of wax which can be warmed up in boiling water and applied with a small applicator or spatula, and (usually muslin) removal strips. Each product varies slightly, so be sure to read the manufacturers directions carefully.

Warm up the wax to optimum temperature and use the small spatula to apply a thin layer of wax to the growth. Make sure that you only use a small amount of wax on the spatula to avoid the wax dripping when it is applied. Apply wax with the hair growth under the eyebrow, (i.e. in the same direction that the hair grows in). You don?t need to use much, and you should not let the wax dry.

3) Removing the Hair

This is the painful bit! Ouch!!

Never wax above the eyebrow, only ever shape from below. Waxing from under the brow will widen your eyes and help to get the line even. This will make you look younger and much more glamorous if done correctly! As soon as it is applied remove the wax against the hair growth, (i.e. in the opposite direction that the hair grows in). This is done by gently smoothing a piece of cotton muslin over the waxed area, pulling the skin taut with one hand, and pulling the muslin off with the other.

It is a good idea to take a little hair off at a time, especially if you have fairly this growth. You will be surprised how much difference a little hair removal will make to your appearance.

4) The Aftermath

Any straggly hairs left over after waxing can be easily plucked out using a set of good tweezers. Apply a soothing balm like tea tree oil onto the area afterwards. You should avoid direct sunlight, acid based facial treatments, and liquid makeup for several hours.

To give the gorgeous new eyebrow shape emphasis, use an eyebrow pencil or tinted brow shadow to subtly fill in any gaps, and even out the natural color tone. Don?t worry if you make mistakes, even if you have bald patches or empty spaces. Practice makes perfect, and anyway, the hair will have grown back before you know it!!

Dental floss and toothpick - A single strand of floss coiled up and tucked away can really save the day in case your romantic candlelit dinner for two becomes a dinner for three, if you count the broccoli between your teeth as a single entity! A toothpick may also be a good item to include for dental hygiene purposes away from home.
Mini mouthwash ? Fresh breath in an instant! Just take a small swig of mouthwash after dinner or before you head out the door. Chase the taste of your lunch, dinner or even strong coffee away with a quick rinse with some minty mouthwash.

Mini trial size perfume spritzer - Freshen up anytime you like by carrying a miniature purse-sized fragrance spritzer with you. Scent is often considered the sense most tied to memory, so let your fragrance linger and leave a lasting impression wherever you go!

Hairspray or gel ? Long events often leave much room for hair calamities to engage by the end of the night. If you simply can?t stand to have a single hair out of place, it is in your best interests to pack a miniature bottle of hairspray or gel. Just a spritz here or a dab there will fix any potential problems before anyone else even notices!

Visine and pressed powder ? Did you know that Visine doesn?t just ?get the red out? of your eyes? A tiny drop applied to a bright red blemish can often tone down the abrasive color, which can then be further diminished with a gentle blotting of pressed powder complementary to your skin tone. A concealer stick may also come in handy!

Tissues ? You never know when your allergies might act up or a sudden event may cause the waterworks to spring a leak. By prepared to sop up any unexpected tears with a few tissues packed handily inside your pocketbook.

Miniature bottle of lotion ? Whether dry hands or peeling skin from harsh sunburn ail you, ward off any unsightly flakes with a few drops of your favorite lotion in a travel-sized bottle. In the dire absence of hairspray or gel, you can also use a tiny bit of lotion to smooth down fly-aways and cowlicks.

For more exclusive events and outings, you may wish to include:

Extra pantyhose or at least clear nail polish ? The last thing you want to deal with is a runner in your pantyhose when you?re off to nail that job interview so you can get your foot in the door of your dream occupational field. Worse yet, imagine being in the bridal party with short gowns and a foot-long runner from just above your ankle to your knee! Always be prepared, even if it means stashing an extra pair of hose in your car?s glove box.

Toothbrush and toothpaste ? Keeping your choppers a pretty pearly white can really be a daunting task if you are on the run all the time. Why not buy an extra toothbrush and tube of toothpaste to keep with you in your car, or in your purse when you know you?ll need it? Fresh breath and clean teeth can be yours all the time, even if it does mean brushing away in the office restroom!

Should You Color Your Own Hair?

Why spend $150 or more getting your hair lightened or darkened when you could do it yourself? When considering if you should color your own hair, use these 12 tips we've gathered over the years:

Don't go more than two shades lighter or darker. If you want a dramatic change, get your hair professionally done. If it's a subtle change you're after, then doing it yourself is fine. We've read of several top beauty editors who do it themselves (probably because they despise how long it takes in a salon).

The simpler, the better. At-home hair coloring is for people who simply want to go a couple shades lighter or darker or to cover gray. Anything more complicated than that should be handled by a pro. If it's a new base color and highlights you're after, go to a pro. If you have permed or relaxed hair, or if your hair is damaged, also see a pro, you don't want to overprocess your locks.

Don't go by the picture on the box. Pictures on hair color boxes can be deceiving. You're better off going by the color swatches on the box and the descriptions. According to the February 2006 issue of Ladies Home Journal, most boxes will call out the color (blonde, brown, black and red) and the shade of that color (light, medium and dark). There might also be mention of the tone (golden or ashy). This is a better guide to what you'll end up with.

Always test a few strands of hair first. Too many women skip this step and end up with a color they despise. Once the color is in, it's harder to change.

Consider trying two colors. We love this tip we got from 'Confessions of a Beauty Editor': Many stylists create lighter strands around the face. To get this look, invest in a bottle of dye a shade lighter and paint it on the strands around your face.

What to do if your color isn't as bright as expected? Another tips from 'Confessions': If your hair turns out not as light as you'd expected, take another bottle of dye and mix in equal portion of shampoo. Lather and keep it on for 5 minutes. Rinse, and you'll notice a difference.

Don't overprocess your ends. Once you've colored your own hair, you'll want to re-dye the roots. To insure you're not wrecking your ends, cover ends with conditioner when dying roots and around your crown. This will protect hair from dye. A few minutes before it's time to rinse color out, work the dye over the conditioned ends. This will add just enough process to update the color, without damaging your ends.

Make sure you prep before you color. Rub Vaseline around your hairline as a protective measure before applying color. (To remove after coloring, rub a small amount of cream cleanser and wipe off with cotton balls). Always wear gloves and wrap an old dark-colored towel around your shoulders.

When to wash hair before you dye? Many experts suggest washing hair a day before - not the day of - coloring. Natural oils protect scalp from the processing.

After you color, wait a full day before washing hair. You want the pigment in the dye to fully settle into your hair, so avoid washing hair at least 24 hours after you color.
Maintain with the right shampoo. A color-depositing shampoo and conditioner are good purchases. Otherwise, select a formula created for colored hair.

Super dry hair? Try a deep conditioner. Because the ingredients in hair dye are very concentrated (even more so than the salon dyes), it's a good idea to deep condition dry hair a week before you color hair. Once hair's colored, you'll want to deep condition every week to keep processed hair soft.

Top 5 Beautyful Tips for Prom - makeup

The weeks before prom can be crazy. There's nothing better than planning your dress, shoes, prom makeup and hair. To make things easier, we've compiled the five prom makeup musts for this year's event. If you live by these prom makeup tips, we guarantee you won't look weird, boring or too much like your regular, everyday self for this year's prom. Have fun!

Prom Makeup Tip #1: Pick your eyes OR your mouth

The biggest mistake people make when putting on makeup is that they highlight both the eye and the mouth. You need to pick one or the other and downplay what you rejected.

How to pick? Simple. What do people compliment you on? Do you have Angelina Jolie's lips or Kate Bosworth's eyes? If you choose to focus on your lips, you'll want to go bright. Red is hot for prom, as are dark pinks. Just stay away from brown (leave it for your grandmother) and make sure you keep your eye makeup soft and simple.

For the right way to wear red lipstick check out this article . If you want to play up your eyes, go all out with liner, shadow, mascara and even false eyelashes (the ones that AREN'T obnoxious and outlandish). Just make sure you stick with light lips capped with a light gloss.

Smokey eyes are a great look for prom. Here are step-by-step instructions .

Prom Makeup Tip #2: Perfect your skin tone.

Perfecting your skin tone can be more important than eye makeup. But the secret is to make it look like you're wearing hardly any makeup. In this article, we show you how to achieve a flawless face.

While we're firm believers that few women under age 25 need foundation, if you have acne or an uneven skin tone, you'll want to cover it up with concealer and foundation.

To avoid the pancake batter look, only apply foundation on the areas of skin that are discolored or have blemishes (usually the forehead, cheeks and chin). Make sure to choose a foundation that perfectly matches your skin and blend in well along the jawline.

Unsure how to pick the right foundation? Skip the drugstore and head instead to a department store or Sephora, where you can try before you buy.

Prom Makeup Tip #3: If in doubt, mimic a celebrity

A good trick for those of us overwhelmed with hair and makeup choices is to mimic a celebrity look. Whomever you're into, whether it be Mischa Barton (pictured right), Carrie Underwood, Kristin Callaveri or Ashlee Simpson, you can adapt their look for your prom.

Chances are a professional makeup artist did the celebrity's makeup. If you're having your makeup done at a department store counter before prom, you can bring along the picture for your makeup artist to perfect.

It can also be easy to do it yourself since many magazines name the products used on the celebrity. This way you can apply the exact makeup the celeb used. Here are some of our favorite looks:

1. Penelope Cruz's smokey eyes). Remember to keep your cheek color natural and use a very light lipstick. See directions for how to get a smokey eye above.

2. Sienna Miller's sweet and sexy look). Keep cheeks dewy with a pink blush and plump up lips with a colored gloss.

3. Red lipstick is a great look, just make sure to pick the perfect shade and go light on your eyes, otherwise you'll risk looking like a Cameron Diaz 'don't').

4. Dark-rimmed eyes, like Katherine Heigl's, are gorgeous. Again, a light gloss on the lips will do you.
Tear out a picture of your favorite celebrity and practice the look before the big night. Once you're at prom, no one but you has to know you're the OTHER Mary-Kate Olsen.

Prom Makeup Tip #4: Three things to remember when taking pictures

You'll have those prom pictures for years, so don't forget these three things:

1. Apply liner and lipstick WITH A MIRROR before you pose.

2. Powder your oily areas (forehead, chin and nose) immediately before the picture. Or better yet, keep blotting papers in your purse.

3. Find out how to stand so you look ten pounds thinner.

Prom Makeup Tip #5: What to bring in your purse

Every purse needs blotting papers (better than applying powder all night, which can leave you looking like a mime), lipstick or gloss, powder (just in case), breath mints and a small bottle of hairspray.

One last thing: Remember, a happy, fun attitude is your biggest beauty weapon. Who doesn't look beautiful when they're happy and smiling?

Using Eyeliner

Eyeliner can make even the smallest eyes appear larger. Applying it correctly is key; you don't want the line to be too dark, harsh and obvious or you risk looking overdone. Here we share our favorite tried-but-true eyeliner tips and then give instruction on how to apply a basic eye, a smoky eye, a bold eye and a cat eye.

You can use an eyeliner pencil, a liquid liner or an eyeliner brush dipped into a deep shadow to line eyes. If you use a pencil, set the line with eyeshadow because penciled lines tend to melt and won't stay put all day.

How to apply liquid eyeliner

A typical way to apply liquid eyeliner is to line eye from the inside of the lashes outward in one big sweep. You can also line the eye from the middle of the lash line outward, then finish the line from the inner corner of the eye to the middle.

Another liquid eyeliner trick requires a steady hand and will make eyes appear wider.

Step 1: Start with a completely bare eye.

Step 2: Starting with the upper lashes, dot the liquid liner into the spaces between the lashes, wiggling the liner into the lashes. The result is not supposed to be a line. It's supposed to look as if the lashes themselves are super thick at the root.
Step 3: Apply mascara.Step 4: Compare eye to other naked eye and see if you love the results.

How to Apply Mascara

Here we share how to apply mascara correctly. If you suffer from thick, clumpy, spider-like lashes, you may be applying mascara incorrectly.

How to properly apply mascara. Ace your mascara application with a three-step process:

Step 1: Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of lashes. It's the mascara placed near the roots -- not the tips -- that gives the illusion of length.

Step 2: Pull the wand up and through lashes, wiggling as you go. The wiggling part is key: Wiggling separates lashes.

Step 3: In this final step (which I always skip), close the eye and place the mascara wand on top of lashes at the base and pull through to remove any clumps.

8 Color Tips for Nails

Use these tricks to get perfect colored polish for your toes and fingers.

1. Moisturize cuticles. Cuticle oils penetrate the skin bed best. Check out prices here:. Don't have cuticle oil on hand? Use a rich hand cream like or even lip balm.

2. Prep nails by filing. File nails in an oval shape just like the curve of your nail base. Square tips could make your fingers look chubby.

3. It's important to wipe nails with a nail polish remover before applying polish even if you aren't wearing polish. Why? Oils left on the nail (like the hand cream or lip balm) will keep polish from sticking. But don't clean nails with cotton balls. Why? They'll leave little fuzzies on your nails. A better option is to use a makeup sponge or try these Stripper to Go pads from celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann

4. Wrap the tips of your nails with polish. When applying polish, be sure to bring it over the front edge of the nail and slightly under the tip. This helps prevent chipping.

5. If the polish chips, it's best to remove the paint from the nail and start over. If you don't have time, dip your finger in nail polish remover and smooth over the chipped area and re-apply a topcoat.

6. Smudged your polish while painting? Try this trick: dip your finger in nail polish remover and use it to smooth the surface, repainting with a topcoat.

7. The secret to keeping nails from smudging: Dry time! Surfaces will feel dry to the touch after 10 minutes, but don't be fooled. It actually takes an entire hour for nails to completely dry.

8. When a nail breaks, the best thing to do is to cut it off. But here's a trick if the break is low down (& painful, undoubtedly): cut a tiny strip of gauze from a teabag, place it over the tear & the paint over with polish.
9. To maintain a fresh polish, add a fresh layer of topcoat every other day.

10. How long should your manicure last? Experts say one to 2 weeks. A pedicure should last 2 to 4 weeks. A couple expert tips we've learned over the years:

(1)Want to ensure your nails are the right shape? Line each finger up with its opposite, cuticle-to-cuticle.

(2) Fingers stained from nicotine, berries or too dark polish? Take a whitening toothpaste (we like Rembrandt & brush away the stains.

(3) Two thin coats are better than one thick coat. You'll find it dries faster.

How to Wear Red Lipstick

Red lipstick is a universal classic and has yet to go out of style, according to the fashion magazines, yet many women assume they can't wear it. They're wrong. Here we show you how.

Rule No. 1: The secret lies in the rest of your face. The paler the skin, the bigger the pop. Go light on the eyes and the blush, otherwise you’ll risk looking like a clown (Cameron Diaz made this fatal mistake at the 2007 Golden Globes). Here’s how to do it: Skip eyeliner and go only for mascara (black for brunettes, brown for blondes and redheads), making sure to apply to bottom lashes (it opens up your eyes). Dust face with powder and cheeks with a soft blush.

Rule No. 2: Line inside of lips Red lipstick tends to bleed, so fill in lips with lip liner first, suggests makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff in the December 2006 issue of Harper's Bazaar.

Rule No. 3: Pick the right color If your complexion is pink, you'll look better in plum shades, while girls with yellow tones are flattered by warmer reds that have a brown base, according to celebrity makeup artist Jemma Kidd in the December 2005 issue of Harper's.

Rule No. 4: Don't let nails clash We prefer non-red nail polish when you're going red on the lips. A clear polish or light color is cool, and black polish is a trend that shows no sign of going away anytime soon. If you want to go red on the nails, make sure the color matches your lips. I strongly feel Essie makes the best nail polishes. Check out your red options here.

Rule No. 5: Blending is in Few makeup artists stick to one shade of any lipstick, they tend to blend a few to create the perfect colors. If you've bought a red lipstick shade that's too bright, dark or whatever, don't throw it away. Instead, experiment with other lipstick shades you have on hand to create the perfect shade of red.

Check out pages and pages of red lipstick from high-end brands like Chanel to the good-but-cheaper brands such as Revlon and Cover Girl
