NBC 10! Show: While You Were Sleeping

Yesterday, I was a guest on the NBC 10! Show - where I featured my favorite beauty products that work the night shift.

Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream, $60
Available at Kiehl's stores and kiehls.com
Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream is an advanced anti-aging cream scientifically proven to wake up skin cells, resulting in healthier, smoother, and more youthful skin. Results include reduced lines and wrinkles, improved firmness, and a dramatic restoration of hydration. Rosa Arctica should be used twice daily – in the morning and then again before bedtime.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, $43
Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a potent 99.8% naturally-derived and paraben-free botanical elixir works all night to regenerate, repair and replenish the skin barrier while you sleep. This product boosts the repair and regeneration of skin when it is naturally programmed to best absorb active ingredients, typically between Midnight and 4 a.m. The rich blend of naturally replenishing botanical oils including Squalane, Evening Primrose, and a blend of essential oils known for their therapeutic, balancing, and antioxidant effects, works with the skin's natural nocturnal activity to deliver softer, fresher and more radiant skin by morning. To apply, put 2-3 drops of the product onto the top of clean hand, tap fingertips into oil lightly. Then press fingertips gently on the cheeks, forehead and chin to evenly distribute – pat, don’t rub.

Talika Hand Therapy Gloves, $49
Developed using post surgery healing technology, these unique gloves provide serious hydration and act like a "second skin", smoothing and protecting from the first time you use it. The gloves adapt to the shape of your hands and the gel lining contains ceramides, grape seed and avocado oils to nourish, moisturize and slow the signs of aging. Wear the gloves overnight for an intensive treatment. They can be worn 40 times and are washable between uses, as necessary.

Dr. Scholl's For Her Ultra Overnight Foot Cream, $5
Dr. Scholl's For Her Ultra Overnight Foot Cream softens the roughest, most dehydrated feet overnight as you sleep. A special blend of four moisturizers including aloe and palm oil provides deep, penetrating overnight action to soothe extra-thick skin on the feet and keep feet feeling soft and healthy. Use at night with or without socks for baby-soft feet.

Nexxus ProMend Split End Binding Overnight Treatment Crème, $19.99
Available at drugstores
Nexxus ProMend Split End Binding Overnight Treatment Crème provides intensive repair as you sleep, binding split ends back together in one use so hair looks freshly-cut between cuts. In the morning, hair looks healthy and restored. The product is formulated so it won’t leave residue on bed linens.

Bliss FatGirlSleep, $38
Get a full night's 'booty' sleep with this supercharged sister to Bliss's famed FatGirlSlim cellulite treatment. Bliss FatGirlSleep is formulated to address four causes of cellulite: fat storage, fat burning, water retention, and slackened skin. Simply massage into trouble spots for 30 seconds before bedtime. While you sleep, the product releases dimple diminishers for up to six hours. Not only does FatGirlSleep help you address cellulite overnight, but it’s also infused with a lavender scent, which has been shown to have a relaxing, aromatherapeutic effect.

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

Okay, I'm about to get honest…real honest. As a beauty expert, it pains me to admit this, but I just started using eye cream. I know, I know…31 is a little late to the crows feet prevention partay. But I'm lazy, and I'm especially bad at regularly applying skin care products – particularly ones that are preventative and don't yield immediate results. Besides, my parents are pushing 60 and they don't have wrinkles, so I've been betting on good genes.

But I recently discovered an eye cream that has made me change my ways. Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado is amazing. Chock full of avocado, beta carotene and shea buttery goodness, it moisturizes the delicate eye area without migrating into eyes or irritating; even those with sensitive skin will love this product. It has a creamy, concentrated texture that skin just drinks up – so you need not worry about it sitting on top of skin or interfering with makeup application. All of the above benefits are fine and good, but here's what I love about the eye cream: when you rub it in, it releases a cool burst of water. It's so cool…if Bill Nye The Science Guy did a beauty segment on his show, this would totally be one of the products he'd highlight.

Every time I apply Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, I look forward to that slight splash of water. It never gets old for me, and that's what keeps me applying every day. So despite my laziness, I'm using my love of gimmicks to help me beat crow's feet.

I can't believe my eye cream. It's fantabulous...and you're gonna love it too!

Spoiled Pretty Exclusive: Kim Kardashian Emmy Beauty Breakdown!!!

By now, you know that I love me some Kim Kardashian makeup. So when celebrity makeup artist (and the biggest sweetheart who ever LIVED) Mario Dedivanovic offered me an exclusive beauty breakdown of her Emmys look, I pinched myself so hard, I swear it left a mark.

So without further ado, Mario shares the products and tips to steal Kim Kardashian's 2009 Emmy Awards makeup...

Kim was wearing a gorgeous white gown and I wanted the focus to be on her eyes. I had
custom blended this pretty shade of blue shadow at GIELLA custom blend cosmetics in NYC and was waiting for the perfect occasion to dip into it. With her hair slicked back and a white off the shoulder gown, I was certain that it would work with the rest of the face done clean and dewy, with a nude matte lip.

I prepped Kim’s skin with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer first, followed by Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup all over. To set skin, I applied a bit of Laura Mercier's Loose Setting Powder in Beige. Her brows are filled in with Diorshow Brow Styler Ultra-Fine Precision Brow Pencil, concentrating on the outer corners.

For her eyes, I sprayed a bit of water on an eyeshadow brush (this picks up and holds loose eyeshadow better) and dipped it into Aquagirl eyeshadow by GIELLA - custom blended by yours truly ;-). I applied Aquagirl all over the eyelids up to the crease, blending well so there are no lines.

On the inner corners of the eyes, apply GIELLA's b-dazzle eyeshadow. Use the leftovers on the brush to lightly sweep onto the brow bone. You dont want the brow bone to appear very shiny or light as it will look dated. Smoke Aquagirl shadow along the lower lash line as well. For more drama, you can take it all the way into the inner corners. Use Fascinating Eye Kohl by MAC on the inner rims of the eyes. Curl lashes a couple of times and apply two coats of Lancome Hypnose Mascara on top and bottom lashes. If you want super long lashes like Kim, apply a few individual long lashes to each eye.

Kim's skin is bronzed with
Casino by NARS. Use a bit on a brush and apply it along the hairline. With a smaller brush, apply more onto the hollows of the cheeks. Use Orgasm by NARS on the apples of the cheeks. To highlight the cheekbones and bridge of nose, I swept a tiny bit of b-dazzle shadow by GIELLA and blended with a clean brush.

I lined Kim's lips with
Subculture by MAC, then blended a dab of the Dior foundation to her lips. Blot that with a tissue and use Honeylove Lipstick, also by MAC.

Giella, of GIELLA custom blend cosmetics has decided to make and sell Aquagirl eyeshadow and is offering a 15% discount!!! Click here and enter makeupbymario for the discount. b-dazzle eyeshadow, one of Mario’s all-time favorites, can also be purchased on the site with the same discount code!

Love Mario as much as I do? Be sure to visit his blog regularly...and follow him on Twitter!

Mwah, Mario!

Ashley Greene at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards

Celebrity makeup artist, Vanessa Scali, made Twilight/New Moon star Ashley Greene sizzle on the red carpet last night at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards. Ashley wore a light blue bustier top and flowery skirt by Dolce & Gabbana, so Scali created a look that was sweet, summery and sexy.

"I wanted Ashley to have radiant skin, so I used Shu Uemura’s new red:juvenus skincare line first using the Vitalizing Refining Lotion followed by the Intense Revitalizing Concentrate," said Scali. "These products feel weightless and penetrate quickly leaving the skin energized, refined and radiant." To complete the look, Scali gave Ashley, the winner of Teen Choice’s "Fresh Face", a beautiful shimmery taupe eye and a well-blushed cheek.

To recreate Ashley’s look, Scali suggests you take the following steps:

SKIN PREP: Shu Uemura Vitalizing Refining Lotion followed by Intense Revitalizing Concentrate (both available August 18th at shuuemura-usa.com). These products really made Ashley’s skin glow, creating the perfect canvas for makeup.

UNDEREYE: Lancôme’s Effacernes in Light Bisque. It gives clean, fresh coverage.

FOUNDATION: Shu Uemura Nobara Cream Cover Stick Foundation (available September 1st at shuuemura-usa.com). It gives a beautiful, flawless, natural look.

BLUSH: Lancôme’s Color Design Blush in Petticoat Pink on the apples of the cheeks.

EYESHADOW: Shu Uemura’s Cream Eye Shadow in P Brown all over the eye lid blending off at the crease and under the bottom lashes close to the lash line.

EYE LINERS: To define and elongate the lash line, use Shu Uemura’s Painting liner in Black. Also, line the inner rim of the eye with a matte white pencil. This is a great way to open the eye.

LASHES: For luxuriously full lashes, give yours a boost by adding Shu Uemura’s Flare Lashes in Black.

MASCARA: One generous coat of Kiehl’s Marvelous Mineral Mascara in Black.

POWDER: In the T-zone only, apply Shu Uemura’s Face Powder in Colorless (matte formula).

LIPS: Use Shu Uemura’s Rouge Unlimited in Wine 296 to stain the lip and finished with a light touch of Shu Uemura Gloss Unlimited bg 952s.

Bloggers Take Manhattan

Please forgive me, peeps, for I have no time to do what I do.

I'm in NYC for the annual Daily Makeover Beauty Bloggerati conference - and it's been makeup, skincare and hair 24-7. So please forgive the lack of posts lately. But while I'm on here apologizing, I might as well tell you what I've been up to. I'm so tired, I'm about to pass out. But here are some quick highlights...

If you haven't tasted the crispy fried chicken, basilicious mozzarella sticks or fruit embellished fro-yo dessert at Mad For Chicken (formerly BonChon), you have not lived. Thanks for the tip, Erika.

Daily Makeover's site is about to get a makeover. Can't be too specific, but their new content and tools are going to blow your beauty-loving mind.

Had delish lunch at the Estee Lauder offices and finally met all of the PR girls I talk to ten times a day. All of the brands (which include an impressive lineup: MAC, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Tommy Hilfiger, Jo Malone, and more) are very interested in learning more about the Beauty Bloggerati and how they can better work with us.

Our Columbus Circle beauty crawl went a little like this:

*Fell a little more in luvre with Kiehl's. Told everyone within earshot about my obsession with their Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion; I think I converted many of my fellow bloggers into fans. Then we were all introduced to Kiehl's new Sunflower Oil hair products; the shampoo smells yummy fantastic - like fresh apricot. We also got the skinny on the new Rare Earth line, created for acne-prone and greasy gals like yours truly. They sent me home with samples, so look for reviews soon.

*Lancome is the freaking bomb. We were greeted with champagne, heavenly cupcakes and veritable wonderland of makeup. I had an opportunity to play around with their fall 2009 collection and chat up celebrity makeup artist, Andrew Sotomayor...who has the BEST SKIN EVER. No joke. You could inspect his face with a high powered microscope and not find one pore. And the kind folks at Lancome sent us all home with a bag of goodies, including the Oscillation Powerbooster mascara primer and new Hypnose Drama mascara - which, together, are TO DIE!

*L'Occitane has this amazing anti-aging skincare product, called Divine Cream, that will hit shelves September 16th. I smoothed some on my hand and the texture was truly divine. L'Occitane don't lie.

*I wish Philadelphia had a Space NK store. Really, every city should have at least one. It smelled so damn good inside and they had some mellow Marvin Gaye on the stereo...I just didn't want to leave. What I love about Space NK is the diverse range of brand offerings. I consider myself a beauty savant, and there were products and lines that I've never heard of. Can you even?

*If there's a store where I want one of everything, it's Fresh. I seriously don't think you can go wrong with anything they sell. My new fave Fresh products are the Brown Sugar Body Scrub and Body Cream. It's like a 1-2 punch to your flaky epidermis. Exfoliate with the scrub and then moisturize with the cream and you'll swear that you got bumped to the top of the skin transplant list. The transformation is unbelievable!

Attended the What Not To Wear premiere party at the Ted Gibson Salon, to celebrate Ted's new gig as the show's resident hair guru. Briefly chatted up Jason Backe and congratulated him on the oodles of magazines he's been quoted in these last few months. I love me some Ted and Jason...dolls, the both of them. They deserve all of the success coming their way.

Me, Amber and Marta at Revlon dinner

Dinner with Revlon at Almond was ab fab. The steak frites I ordered was un(freaking)real. Plus, we got up close and personal with some of their newest products. In the middle of my meal, I applied their Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick...and it still looked perfect when I returned to my room at the ACE Hotel 2 hours later.

Okay, losing consciousness now. I'll check in again as soon as I can. You might have to wait a lil longer than a New York minute...but it will be worth it.

Twilight's Ashley Greene Talks Beauty Shop

NY Beauty Secrets Examiner Gabrielle Long recently chatted up Twilight/New Moon beauty Ashley Greene, who dished about her must-have products, favorite beauty icons and the reason behind her new bob.

Here's an excerpt:

Q: What is your daily beauty regimen?
A: I started using BORBA products... they're amazing and leave my face glowing. My daily regimen usually consists of the BORBA: Age Defying Micro Diamond Cleanser, Elastin Fiber Concentrate, HD Illuminating Light Effects Serum, Orbital Eye Rejuvenator and the Age Defying Advanced Recovery Cream. To get eye makeup off, I use the Lancome remover. I also use the MAC Wipes to get all the makeup off before my regimen. And of course sunscreen...usually Kiehl's or Dermalogica. Dermalogica also has a really great "special clearing booster" for spot treatment on blemishes.

Q: Is your regimen any different when you're filming?
A: It's a little more involved on set with hot towel treatments and Dermalogica precleanse to get all that white makeup off. We use a lot Dermalogica products...I love the Microfoliant!

Q: Do you like to wear makeup when not filming, or do you prefer to go natural?
A: I don't really wear foundation...I prefer tinted moisturizer if anything. Usually after the Borba process I don't need it - my skin is in pretty healthy shape. It's usually mascara, concealer and lip gloss.

Q: You recently cut your hair (and it looks great!). Was it for your role as "Alice", or something you wanted to do for yourself? Do you prefer it shorter or longer?
A: Thanks! I cut it to make my hair fit under the Alice wig properly. I didn't have to go quite so short but I figured it's the only time I would EVER do it. I'm a long hair girl... I've had long hair my whole life. It's cute short, but I'll grow it back out.

Q: In your opinion, what makes someone beautiful?
A: I think a lot of what makes someone beautiful is how a person presents themselves. I was talking to someone the other day about how I find French woman so beautiful... it's something they possess inherently. I feel like when someone has a zest for life they come off vibrant and beautiful.

Q: What are your favorite beauty products?
A: BORBA (all of which I mentioned) and Dermalogica. I love Matrix sleek products for my hair - they work very well for me. Rose bud lip gloss is the best. YSL has a great illuminating concealer. Shiseido you can't go wrong with either... their tinted moisturizer is great. I also just found this amazing line in Europe called "Becca;" their stuff is amazing... I have to stock up when I go back because it isn't sold in the US!

Q: Who is your beauty icon?
A: Audrey Hepburn is classically beautiful.

Q: Lip gloss or lip stain?
A: Gloss...and Chapstick.

The Product That Saved Kim Kardashian's Sunburned Skin

On a recent trip to Mexico, Kim Kardashian accidentally fell asleep in the sun...and awoke to what appears to be a pretty serious case of sunburn.

Today on her blog, Kim dishes about the miracle product that healed her hide:

This face cream saved my life! It's called Anti-Oxidant Skin Preserver and it's by Kiehl's. It is the only thing that calmed down my sunburn and healed my skin!

I am so thankful for this product. It's very heavy and greasy but that's exactly what dry skin needs. It's thick like Vaseline, but its so nourishing for the skin. Having this sunburn was the biggest wake up call for me. I realized how damaging sun is and how important it is to take care of your skin. I'm going to use this moisturizer every night! I'm also on the search for the perfect facial sunblock, so I will keep u posted!

Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman Award Winner: Kiehl's Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion

Kiehl's celebrates Earth Day 2009 with the introduction of a limited-edition Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion, of which 100% of net proceeds will benefit Waterkeeper Alliance.

For this initiative, Kiehl's partners with actor Adrian Grenier, musican Erykah badu, surfer Kelly Slater, and three design students from Parsons The New School For Design; they helped Kiehl's to create four limited-edition labels representing their commitment to sustainability, to raise funds and awareness for Waterkeeper Alliance.

The Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion is one of my new favorite eco-friendly finds. My desiccated skin breathes a sigh of relief as soon as I smooth it on. It helps improve skin's resilience and texture, enriches skin's moisture barrier, and leaves skin soft with a healthy-looking sheen. Take a tip from me and apply it all over, post-shower/bath, when your skin is still a wee bit wet - to lock in moisture. And you're going to flip for the sift, citrusy scent.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner

When you think of toner, you probably envision a runny product that stings the skin, leaves your face somewhat tight, and smells like rubbing alcohol. That’s what I thought about, anyway, until I tried Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner.

First of all, its non-alcoholic formula is unscented. So no walking around with a face that smells like a medicine cabinet. And the creamy texture doesn’t tingle like traditional toners, but it is just as effective – if not more – thanks to emollients that gently remove residue while moisturizing and comforting skin.

The Ultra Facial Toner works for everyone – not just oily/combination skin types. In fact, after washing with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and then toning with this product, my dry skin was so hydrated that I skipped moisturizer!

And for you ladies who have been desperately trying to introduce your man’s skin to a more upscale skincare routine – look no further. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial products are gentle, unscented, and have guy-friendly packaging. Buy yourself some, and sit them by the sink. Sharing is caring.

Available at Kiehl’s counters and at kiehls.com.
