One of my favorite makeup company NYX, has added new products to their line. NYX offers affordable and good quality makeup, so I'm sure all of these are going to be awesome. I'm really interested in their new makeup artist train case. I checked out the photos on the website and I'm amazed on how much makeup you can put it in. It's a great way to organize your makeup and it's perfect for any aspiring or professional makeup artists. I'm also loving the look of their matte lipsticks. They looks sleek and sophisticated. I'm a big fan of NYX cosmetics and I've been loving the NYX Round Lip Glosses ever since I started playing with makeup. For $2-3, you get a beautiful variety of colors, awesome pigmentation (just look at the swatches on my lips), and smooth silky texture. On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of the applicator and scent. The doe-foot applicator is a bit flimsy and scent is like a strong bathroom cleaner. But it quickly goes away though, so it's not so bad. I'm a bit sad that NYX discontinued them, but they're still available for $2 at Cherry Culture, so you can still get them ^_^

The Ultimate Crease Free Eye Shadow Base/Primer

When I was still a noob with makeup, I was obsessed in finding the perfect eye primer. An eye primer is what you put on your eye lids prior to eye shadow application. It supposed to make the eye shadows last longer and keep it from fading and creasing. I have oily lids, and I was desperate to find an eye primer that would work. With the influence of youtube makeup videos, I bought my very first eye primer, the Urban Decay Primer Potion (2 years ago). Many girls claimed it's the best primer ever, so I had to get it. To my disappointment, it didn't work! I used it like other makeup girls did, but creasing still occurred after 2-3 hours ugh! So I tried other eye primers in the market and they all didn't work. What the heck was I doing wrong?

Finally, after almost 2 years, I figured it out. The problem wasn't the products, it's how I used them. It's all about using small amount, blending and layering several products to achieve the ultimate crease free eye shadow base/primer. I'm going to show you how to do it.

Keep in mind that we all have different eye lids. This trick may or may nor work for you. It works amazing on me, so I want to share it with you ^_^.

My Midnight Blue and Gold Makeup look from Holidays 2010. Click HERE to see more photos.

Here are the products I use for my creaseless eye shadow base/primer

1. Apply a matte base. You can use a foundation or concealer with a MATTE finish. This will soak up the oils and will conceal any discoloration on the eye lids. I prefer using NYX Eye Shadow Base or Almay Line Smoothing concealer (I love this stufft!).  Apply a small amount all over the lids up to the brow bone using a finger or a concealer brush.

2. Set it with a loose powder. This will set the base in place. I prefer using my MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural because it's my current favorite face powder. I use it by itself or to set my makeup.

3. Apply the eye primer. This will make the eye shadow last longer and prevent it from creasing. I prefer using the Urban Decay Primer Potion and apply a small amount on top and blend it with a finger.

And you're done! Your eyes are now ready for a crease free eye shadow application ^_^

I took some photos of my eye makeup to show you how effective it is. I did not use any photoshop or re touched my makeup. The only thing I did was re applied the false lash on my left eye. That's a very poor lash application on my part O_o.

There is no creasing after 8 hours...only a little fading of the eye shadows. But other than that, it looks pretty good right?

Try this trick and let me know if it works for you!

Oh, and here's a makeup video tutorial if you want to learn how to create this makeup.

It makes my lashes super duper loooong!!! NYX Doll Eye Long Lash mascara.

If you've been a long time reader of my blog, then you should know that I love NYX cosmetics. They make awesome quality and very affordable makeup. My favorites are the single eye shadows, round lipsticks, round lipglosses, blushes and mascaras. OMG, if you guys don't know, NYX makes amazing mascaras. They're called the Doll Eye mascara. They come in 3 kinds: Long Lash, Volume and Waterproof. I own one in Long Lash and I love it! It gives my lashes some serious length, and I don't even need to apply fake lashes.

What I like:
-The formula. It's thick but not goopy and doesn't clump my lashes.
-I love the brush/wand that curves in the middle. It's my first time trying a mascara with this kind of brush and it's doing an amazing job in combing, separating and coating every lash, even the tiny ones.
-I love the "Doll Eye" effect that it gives my lashes. It makes them really long and I don't feel the need to apply false lashes whenever I use it.
-It holds the curl very well. I wear this a lot at my other work, and I'm constantly on my feet moving and running around lol. My lashes stayed perfectly curled.
-It doesn't flake.

What I don't like:
-Price. It retails for $9. It's a bit a expensive compare to other drugstore brands, but since it's amazing, it's definitely worth it.

I like to take my time whenever I apply mascara. I apply lots of coats until all my lashes get really black. I also like to curl it one more time after application to get better results. Don't worry, it won't chop off your lashes. I've been doing this trick for years and my lashes are just fine.

I highly recommend this mascara. It doesn't clump or flake and it will give you the most prettiest "doll eye" lashes ^_^]. You're gonna love it!

Makeup Mondays With Mario: How To Do Drugstore

Celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic is answering your burning beauty questions!!! Every Monday, he will answer a beauty/skin care question as part of a weekly column on Spoiled Pretty, Makeup Mondays with Mario.

Hi Mario,

I don't have a big budget for cosmetics, but it seems that most of the inexpensive products I buy don't look very good. Can you recommend some drugstore makeup that is comparable to department store makeup?

Thanks, Kourtney

Hi Kourtney,

When using drug store cosmetics, you should try switching up your technique and tools during application. An extra step or two should have you satisfied with the way your makeup looks. For example, a eyeshadow color that you love at the drugstore looks great in the package but when you bring it home and apply the color, it probably doesn't glide smoothly or evenly stick to your lids. In this case, make sure your lids are primed with a shadow base or a bit of your foundation/concealer and set them with loose powder. This will ensure a smooth and even application. Your brush should not be too "fluffy" unless you are blending so choose a shadow brush with shorter, firmer bristles and dab/press the shadow onto the lids a few times. Using a cream shadow first followed by a powder also works well and gives a richer look.

A tip for making inexpensive, hard liners easily glide on to give you nice pigment is to first heat them with a blow dryer or a lighter. You'd be surprised at how the texture of the pencil becomes rich and emollient. If you try this, please wait a few seconds before you apply the hot pencil to your face.

Drugstores do carry so many great makeup brands and products that are comparable to department store brands. L'Oreal True Match Foundation, Revlon lipstick, NYX shadows and blush and CoverGirl concealers are just a few of many, many good products that can be found in drugstores. Just like with inexpensive clothing or furniture, it takes more effort to make it look good but you learn so many tricks along the way.

Thanks for visiting Makeup Mondays with Mario!

Mario

Hey friends, I hope everyone had a great weekend ^_^ I just want to share my current favorite product. I have so many lip glosses in my makeup collection and I find myself reaching for my round lip gloss in Pinky Natural by NYX a lot. Its such a gorgeous nude pink color and it pretty much goes well with any makeup look I do.

My wondeful boyfriend a.k.a "baby kos" surprised me this weekend with 2 pairs of Ed Hardy shoes. He knew how much I love my really old and worn out Ed Hardy sneakers that he got me not one but two new pairs. For what? No reason at all. Christmas is not until the 25th and, I was really surprised and confused because there was no special ocassion. I guess I must have done something good or maybe It's my early Christmas present ^_^ Oh well, I'm still very thankful.

My old Ed Hardys ^_^

I've worn them almost everyday for a whole year. I didn't have to break them in. They were very comfortable. I also love the funky design and believe it or not, I made it match with whatever I wore ha! I even did a look inspired by these shoes for a makeup contest lol. They might retire but I'm still gonna keep them ^_^
