A few eyebrows were raised when Contractor first started in the beauty industry — his mother had hoped he would go into the medical profession.
However, Contractor's fascination with makeup had started at an early age watching Bollywood icon Helen on the silver screen.
Soon after leaving school, Contractor had an opportunity to assist a top film makeup artist before venturing out on his own.
Successful faces
Working with top celebrities on advertising and regional films, he quickly gained a reputation as "the most desirable hands" in the business.
Contractor was responsible for creating many of the successful faces in Bollywood such as Kajol and Karisma Kapoor.

Contractor strikes me as a perfectionist — a bohemian — but nonetheless a perfectionist. He is the master of his craft.
He recalls his humble beginnings with pride and counts, in particular, actress Helen as having had a huge influence on him during those formative years.

- Lighting plays an important part of film makeup. Get to know what kind of lighting is being used — outdoor or indoor.
- Use at least two or three different foundation colors for a more natural foundation.
- Using both liquid and cream foundations together can accomplish a beautiful natural looking base. He recommends M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid and M.A.C Select Moistureblend
- Use a water-based moisturizer on a damp face to hydrate the skin. Then use an emollient-based foundation as the base and blend with a sponge. He recommends M.A.C Studio Tech
- Then use M.A.C Studio Fix with a wet brush over this layer — this helps set the makeup.
- Reinforce saturation of eye shadow texture with M.A.C Cream Color Bases or nude lip stick like M.A.C Cherish. Blend this product on first and then go over it with M.A.C Select Sheer/Loose Powder. Then apply over with your choice of eye shadow.
- For Bollywood smokey eyes, I first line the upper eyelid with M.A.C Fluidline in Blacktrack using the M.A.C 212 Flat Definer Brush and blend. Then I reline the eyes with M.A.C Eyeshadow in Carbon using the M.A.C 266 Small Angle Brush
- When applying mascara, I recommend keeping your thumb as close to the lash line as possible while lifting the upper lid for the mascara application.
