M.A.C Make-up Artist Vimi Joshi on Spring/Summer Trends

A hot make-up tip for the season is to play with textures. Combine shine and gloss with matte skin with M.A.C Mineralized Skinfinishes from the N Collection to play up the nakedness of cheeks, lips and eyes. The end result is a J Lo, full on glow and sexy look.

Orange is the hottest color of this season. "Desis shy from including orange in their make-up palette, but orange is a beautiful color," says Vimi. It’s just right for our skin tones. Blue is a sizzling hot color when it comes to eye make-up. M.A.C Hyacinth Eye Kohl, M.A.C Pro Lash Color in Blue, M.A.C Eye Shadow in Freshwater…bring on the full blue look! Or if you want, stick to black, and for M.A.C Plush Lash but color the tips of your lashes blue.

Check out model Mashoom Singha on whom Vimi demonstrated the textured look and also the use of orange make-up. Before she started the exercise, she asked the audience at the event if they were willing to include orange in their make-up kit, a collective ‘NO’ rose from the audience, but after she was done with Mashoom, there were a whole lot of people willing to try the trend.

Vimi gives us the latest Spring/Summer Trends of 2008.
  • Orange is the color of the season for make-up and desi skin tones have never had it better, because it looks stunning on them.
  • One of the biggest trends for the season are sculpting the face to make it three-dimensional using M.A.C Sculpt and Shape Collection. It’s a look that’s healthy and effortless and uses texture, rather than color. Start out by moisturizing well and applying a base that is the exact same tone of your skin.

  • Then, contour your cheekbones. Using a Sculpt and Shape Powder that is one shade darker than your skin, highlight your cheekbone and jaw line. Using small, circular motions with the M.A.C 169 Angled Brush, blend it completely into the skin. The result should look like you have defined cheekbones, without using a blush.

  • The next step is to use a foundation that’s one shade paler to brighten up your chin.

  • Now you can start using color. For a fresh spring look, use an an orange blush with a matte texture(M.A.C Powder Blush in Raizin) on your cheekbone. Brighten up the apple of the cheek with a blush which has a bit of shine. The difference in the textures makes the shiny one more dramatic and helps your cheek to pop.

  • For the eyes, start by using a shiny nude color (M.A.C Shadestick in Beige-ing) on the eyelids as a base.

  • Put on a pink-orange shadow (M.A.C Eye Shadow in Sushi Flower) with a bit of shimmer on the eyelid.

  • With a white eye pencil (M.A.C Eye Kohl in Fascinating), highlight the inner corners of your eyes. It makes the eyes appear brighter and larger.

  • Use a matte, bright orange eyeshadow (M.A.C Eye Shadow in Orange) on the eye lid or crease. It makes the whole look go pop and you’ll see it’s not a drastic change because the colors and textures blend with each other.

  • Line your lower lid with kohl (M.A.C Eye Kohl in Smolder) (don’t go all the way to the inner corner, that makes the eye look smaller and closed). Use a few coats of mascara (M.A.C Plush Lash Mascara).

  • Finish off with a coral lipstick (M.A.C Lipstick in Vegas Volt), topped with coral tinted lip conditioner (M.A.C Tinted Lip Conditioner in Gentle Coral) in the center.
