I Saved $141 On My New Coat!

Every fall, I buy an inexpensive, nondescript winter coat...and I'm always irritated when, come March, it's looking haggard and I hate it. So this year, I decided to spend some serious money (it's a worthwhile investment, considering I'll wear it every day for 4.5 months of the year) - and I was shocked by how much I saved.
This Ellen Tracy Double Breasted Coat With Ruched Collar* was originally $360 (it's $453 at Bloomingdale's). Lord & Taylor is currently having a sale, so I saved 30%. Then, thanks to some Internet sleuthing, I also had a printable coupon for an additional 15% off. So all in all, I saved $141.
Go, me!
*The black, petite version of this coat that I purchased isn't available online, so check your local Lord & Taylor store. The link above is for the regular sized, camel colored version.

Attention Philly Gals: MAC Master Makeup Class on October 17!

It's a intermediate to advanced level Makeup Master Class and will be held at Bloomingdale's in a private location, where there will be refreshments. There will be MAC makeup and tools supplied for you to use, and there will be new tips and techniques for you to learn in a fun and creative atmosphere.
I had the opportunity to attend one of these seminars in April, and it was the most fun I've ever had putting on makeup. I learned some amazing techniques that I now employ almost daily. Plus, I left the seminar looking like a million bucks.
Classes will be held at 11am & 4pm, and it is a $55 pre-pay in the form of a gift card - which you use afterward the seminar, toward the purchase of products (so the class is basically free).
I will be attending the 4pm seminar, so maybe I'll see you there?
If you are interested in attending, call my girls at the MAC counter to reserve your seat. And be sure to tell them that Spoiled Pretty sent you.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Fall 2009 Collection: Greige
The star product of the season is the eye duo palette, which is dressed with an exotic Manta Ray pattern. Inspired by the precious and luxurious materials used in Giorgio Armani fashion accessories, the palettes offer a beautiful selection of color harmonies inspired by nature. The collection features subtle hues that offer a new take on the timeless color “Greige,” create by Giorgio Armani. The rich filtered eye tones, presented in a matte Greige compact, give depth and mystery to the eyes with subtle contours and highlights.
n° 1 – charcoal and Greige: the ultimate eye shadow combination for this season’s smoky eye
n° 2 – deep ocean blue and intense ocean green
n° 3 – pale lilac grey and luminous fuchsia
n° 4 – light blue stone and sandy beige
n° 5 – shimmering lilac pearl and pale green pearl
The “Greige” Eye Look by Linda Cantello: “Eye shadow is about shading. Rather than adding shadows, these muted tones contour and define, accentuating the eye and the pupil; the focus is actually on the eye itself. My favorite is the Greige and charcoal duo shade palette, but the pale lilac grey and fuchsia offer a really beautiful pop of color.”
Application Tips:
* Use the Greige shade to contour the eye by sweeping the shadow along the crease of the eye. Follow by sweeping the shade under the lower lash line and over the upper lash line. Use charcoal to add intensity.
* A second option is to sweep the charcoal shadow over the whole lid and use the Greige to blend. For added intensity, apply midnight blue eyeliner along the upper lid lash line.
The Giorgio Armani Beauty Fall 2009 Collection is available for a limited time online at giorgioarmanibeauty.com and at selected fine department stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales.

DO Hold Your Breath: Prada Infusion de Fleur d'Oranger
I am hopelessly devoted to Prada Infusion d'Iris. In 2007, when I gifted Mama Spoiled Pretty with a bottle for Christmas, I was seduced by its charm, and I've been wearing it ever since. In fact, I carry a full-sized bottle in my handbag. Yeah, I'm crazy like that. So when I recently learned that Prada would be releasing a new incarnation of the fragrance, Infusion de Fleur d'Oranger, I was beside myself with excitement.
I was expecting something modern and light, like my beloved Infusion d'Iris. Instead, I found the perfume to be an offense to my nostrils. I'm no fragrance expert, so the best way I can characterize the scent is cloying and grandmothery. It's so strong that it would be the last perfume I'd think to spritz on in the warm summer months that are right around the bend. And while I recognize that fragrance is a very personal thing, I can't think of one person I know who would willingly wear this perfume.

So I'm just going to stick with my Infusion d'Iris. And if the Orange Blossom mood strikes me, I'll pick up this perfume by Jo Malone.

MAC Master Class: The Most Fun I've Ever Had Putting On Makeup

After 30+ beauty-obsessed ladies (and one hilarious dude) took our seats at work stations - which were equipped with mirrors, a set of brushes and a plethora of products - MAC pro artists Will and Jocelyn introduced themselves and we got down to biznass.
Will announced that he would be demonstrating the “club zone” look, complete with a peacock blue eye and Bordeaux gloss. Then Jocelyn informed us that she would be leading the “bridal/wedding” look tutorial. Will and Jocelyn explained that we should pick a preferred look - as they would be walking us through the steps, and demonstrating techniques on models. Since I had plans to meet Mr. Spoiled Pretty for a casual dinner later that evening (and I didn't want to look like a tranny hooker at my neighborhood brasserie), I chose to follow Jocelyn’s lead.
During the two hour tutorial, a handful of MAC makeup artists walked around, assisting participants and helping us choose the most flattering makeup shades. One of the artists, Dana, was especially helpful and introduced me to some of my new MAC faves.
The Master Class only cost $50, which you end up getting back (in the form of a MAC gift card) at the end of the seminar. So basically, the class ends up being free...and you go home with a whole bunch of new goodies to help hone your mad makeup skills. Next time MAC organizes a Master Class is my neck of the woods, I'll be there. Perhaps I'll see you there too?
Here’s the abridged breakdown of the bridal look:
1) Spritz face with Fix +
2) Moisturize skin with Studio Moisture Fix.
3) Prep the skin with Prep + Prime Skin.
4) Fill in brows with Eye Shadow, using the 266 Small Angle Brush
5) Apply Paint Pot in Bare Study to eyelid, from lash line to brow bone, using the 242 Shader Brush.
6) Using the same brush, apply Eye Shadow in Shroom to entire lid.
7) Apply Eye Shadow in Cork to the crease, using the 217 Blending Brush**; start at the outer corner and work the product inward, moving the brush in small circles to deposit color.
8) Using the same brush, apply Eye Shadow in Embark to the crease; start at the outer corner and work the product inward, moving the brush in small circles to deposit color - but stop at the middle of the lid, so that the color is concentrated on the outer half of the eye.
9) With the 266 Small Angle Brush, apply Embark Eye Shadow to lower lash line.
10) Use the same brush to line the upper lash line with Fluidline in Blacktrack*.
11) Apply Select Moisturecover concealer to nose, under eyes and above brows - and blend into skin using the 190 Foundation Brush.
12) Mix small amount of Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation* with a few drops of Stobe Liquid* (for a dewy finish) and apply to parts of the face where you did not use concealer (forehead, cheeks, chin and jawline) using the 188 Small Duo Fibre Face Brush*.
13) Using the same brush, set fondation with Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation/Loose.
14) Choose a Powder Blush shade that is similar to your own complexion; I used Harmony. Use the 129 Powder/Blush Brush to contour under the cheekbones. To avoid a line that looks too harsh, imagine a line that runs from the middle of your ear to the corner of your mouth...then apply the blush half-way, from the ear to the middle of the cheek.
15) Using the same brush, apply Powder Blush (in a shade that gives a subtle pop of color) to the apples of cheeks; I used Cubic.
16) Apply Prep + Prime Lip to your lips.
17) Line lips in Spice Lip Pencil.
18) Apply Viva Glam V Lipstick, then top it off with Dazzleglass in Baby Sparks*.
19) Coat upper lashes in Dazzle Lash Mascara.
20) Choose a pair of false lashes* and measure them against your eyes. If they are too long, cut to desired length. Apply Duo Adhesive* and allow glue to get a little tacky before positioning lashes as close as you possibly can to natural lash line.
* must-haves for your makeup toolkit!
** if you're on a tight beauty budget, just buy the 217 Blender Brush (a very wise investment).

My Latest MAC Acquisition: Plushglass in Fulfilled
While Lauren let the makeup artist paint her eyes in hues of blue, I made a beeline for the lip glosses - swatching at least a dozen on my inner arm. And my low-maintenance mom looked on in awe, wondering how she birthed such product-addicted daughters. When Lauren’s makeover was complete, she joined me in playing with the glosses. I asked for her opinion of MAC Plushglass in Fulfilled, which I was seriously considering adding to my collection. “It’s sick,” she exclaimed. So I decided to buy it...and so did she.
I love this formula and adore this shade. And while my lip gloss collection is incalculable, I definitely feel like a void has been filled by Fulfilled. It will be my go-to non-shimmery gloss when I’m playing up my eyes, but I still want a come-hither kisser.

Michael Kors Very Pretty Eau de Parfum: Intense sparkling citrus and drenched coconut meshed with sheer white florals add a touch of femininity. Sensual vetiver and lush sandalwood create a sophisticated balance, resulting in an indulgent floral interpretation of the original Michael Kors fragrance.

Black Magic: Exceptionnel de Chanel Intense Volume and Curl Mascara

Uh-oh, LashBlast…watch your back. Chanel is trying to steal me away from you.

Exceptionnel de Chanel Intense Volume and Curl Mascara delivers dramatic volume, voluptuous curves and clump-free, smudge-proof separation. The mascara doesn’t market itself as possessing lengthening aptitude. So when Exceptionnel took my lashes up, up and away…well, I was blown away. It was seriously like, ‘Go Go Gadget Lashes!’
The mascara owes its off-the-charts performance to the innovative, six-sided wand. The SCULPTVOLUME brush consists of three rows of combs that curl and groom lashes from root to tip, while three rows of brushes pump up the volume. To apply, place the wand at the base of the lash and gently rotate up and outward. The technique takes no time to master, and you’re left with the most perfectly lush (and lengthened) lashes – that last all day.

Me with bare lashes. Pathetic.

My eye wearing Exceptionnel de Chanel. Damn, girl!

Don't ask why I'm slightly orange. I'm a beauty blogger...not a photographer.
Exceptionnel de Chanel Intense Volume and Curl Mascara is available in four shades: Smoky Noir, Smoky Brun, Smoky Marine and Smoky Violine. One tube will set you back, $28 but it’s worth every penny. Besides...every woman needs a little Chanel in her life.
Get yours today at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and Chanel.com.

Get Gorgeously Goth Lips

If you’ve picked up any of the new September 2008 fashion magazines, you’ve certainly noticed that black lipstick is going to be a big beauty trends for fall is. The look may be gorgeously goth on the runway. In real life? Not so much.
But if you dare to try this tricky trend, might I make a suggestion? Black lipgloss. Wait...hear me out. A low-pigment black gloss is easy to wear alone and can be blended with other shades for a little drama.

Priced at $48, the kit features the gloss and Color Fever Lipstick in Piha Red, inspired by the red of a Christian Louboutin sole.

Aaron is a big adherent of having fun with makeup, so the idea is to wear the colors alone or to customize your own shade by mixing them together. Aaron also likes to use Piha Black as an eye gloss.
Only 500 of the sets will be available in the United States, exclusively at the Bloomingdale’s 59th Street location, lancome-usa.com and the five Lancôme boutiques. The waiting list at Bloomingdale’s 59th Street has just opened...so reserve yours now by calling 212.705.2886.
