'The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your body and your fat are really good friends."
When I read this quote recently, I felt that it applied to a great many people. A lot of my patients say to me that, as they get older, even though they exercise quite regularly and maintain a fairly healthy diet - they are still gaining the kilos. They are stuck with extra weight or have flabby areas that don't respond positively to anything!
There are a number of reasons for this - as we age the body's metabolism starts to slow down. Life often becomes busier, juggling children and jobs - but conversely more computer-bound and sedentary. Even for those who in their younger years don't usually gain weight, part of the ageing process is that muscle mass gradually diminishes and is replaced by fat, resulting in decreased physical strength.
HEALTH DIAGNOSIS
