Perimenopause is the period after after a woman has experienced menopause. This typically happens around the age of 45 and all women have different symptoms they experience. Perimenopause is something that can happen and take place for a period of up to ten years before the actual onset of any menopause symptoms. It is true that more women tend to hate the fact they have to go through menopause, but it is a part of life and they all have to experience it some time. Perimenopause symptoms tend to start appearing before the age of 51. They can come sooner or they can come later, that really depends on the woman and her body.
There are many changes that can take place with a woman’s body such as emotional, mental, and physical changes. Most of the changes take place due to the fact that there is a decrease in hormones and other rapid changes in chemicals in the body.
With all that mentioned above going on, there are going to be some unwanted symptoms that can happen. The symptoms of perimenopuasse can start 10 to 15 years before your cycle actually stops. Some of the most common symptoms are going to be experienced in your late 30’s, early and late 40’s and for some women in their early or late 50’s. When you begin to hit any of those ages listed above, there are signs and symptoms that you may notice such as, irregular bleeding. You may a couple of cycles a month or skip a couple of months.
Heavy bleeding has been reported by some women. When they has their monthly cycle, the reported that their menstrual flow was much heavier than they had experienced before.
You may also begin to experience hot flashes or what some people refer to as hot flushes. There are periods when you are feeling extremely hot and can sometimes wake up to a soaked bed. These symptoms pretty much just appear whenever.
You may experience a disturbance of your sleeping patterns. You may fell that you do not any sleep at all or you may have times when you feel as if you could sleep your life away.
Headaches have been reported as well as dry eyes. Both of those symptoms can be very irritating but can be treated with over the counter medications.
You may also experience vaginal changes such a dryness. Dryness can be fixed by over the counter solutions. Vaginal dryness can cause sexual relations to be very uncomfortable and you may want to consult with your physician to if something may be able to be done as well.
Other things that you may notice can include a mild hair loss, weight gain (mostly water retention ) and a loss of libido (loss of sexual desire). All the symptoms listed here are the most common ones that women tend to report.
There are less common side effects that have been reported. Some of these are short term memory loss, lack of concentration and being able to focus. You may have fuzzy thoughts, and an inability to multitask. You may also suffer from anxiety, fatigue and in some patients depression has been reported. One of the main signs and symptoms of perimenopause has always been severe mood swings.
It is always important that a woman’s body is always on the change and is never going to be doing the same thing at one time. During perimenopause, the range of hormones is always going to be changing such as going up and down at different times. Basically once you start perimenopause or menopause, you are going to be a constant swing of changes and never feel completely normal again.
Luckily though, there are treatments that are becoming more available everyday for patients to take. Working with your physician is a great way to get help and information on how to relieve your symptoms or maybe even stop them completely.
It is very important that you remember, just because you are experiencing perimenopausal symptoms, does not mean that you are going to immediately be followed with menopause. The perimenopausal state can go on for many year before transgressing over to full blown menopause. There are things that can make the symptoms worse such as being over weight and other health problems that you may have developed over the years. Having poor nutrition, being under constant stress and having a lack of daily exercise is one of the main causes of perimenopause as you continue to age. Making lifestyle changes could be your best benefit to experiencing less of the effects of menopause. Try to stop smoking and drinking alcohol as those are some of the things that can have the worst effects on women.
